Migraines - can anyone advise?

Monday, June 02, 2014

Iíve been laid up for four days with a massive migraine Ė well I think thatís what it was. Iíve always had mini migraines that just involved the visual disturbance but didnít interrupt my life in any other way. I know a lot of people are regularly confined to bed for several days unable to move their heads. Iíve counted myself lucky but now I know what itís like. My wish for today is to make it to the kitchen without dizziness and nausea.
The reason for this blog is to ask if any Sparkers can give me any tips on how to avoid migraines and how to alleviate them when they arrive. I would be most grateful.

So sorry about the migraines. I know a couple of people who have had really bad ones and they were treated with caffeine.
Hope you are feeling better!!

I have tried to track what and why - had the idea that it was due to drinking too little or eating chocolate or being very stressed or... and I really canīt find any common reason for my migraines.

That has been completely absent for a year now, have no idea why. I was released from migraines after giving borth and I had no migraines during cancer treatment either or afterwards. And what you describe was a very long time ago - nowadays my migraines has been very mild, I have not puked and I have been ble to get up. Befor the only possibility was to stay in bed and wait - and when I finally was able to get up I crace a lot of fluid - sugeraed tea mith hard fried very salty bacon...

Nothing seems to help me when I get them. From medicine to massage, to laying down to sitting up. I sympathise. I do know though that once I started and kept up with my chiropractic visits, it kept them at bay. When I stop going or slack off going to those appointments of at least once a month, they start to come back. They start in my neck and work their way up my head. I do believe the neck being out of place may be what is wrong. Ever been to a chiropractor? My Mom and sister get bad ones too. Nothing helps them either, just rest and dark room. I kept telling them to go to a chiropractor and they wouldn't listen. Never hurts to try in my opinion, especially if you get them all the time. Hope you feel better soon. Oh, Excedrin used to be my medicine of choice for headaches and it used to work, if you took it early. But, I am allergic to nsaids now. emoticon emoticon

Sonia, poor you, migraines are nasty and the nausea can drag you down.
The only thing that worked for me was cold flannels across my forehead, a dark room and eat little and often for the nausea.
Touchwood I've not had one for YEARS but you have my sympathy.
Hope you feel brighter now! emoticon
