Goodbye old friend (lawn mower)

Friday, May 30, 2014

Got some sad news today. My self propelled mower has officially bit the dust! According to the shop, the engine is totally seized up and nothing is going to bring it back to life!

On a slightly more serious note, this is the 2nd self propelled I have sent to an early grave since we moved back to DE. The problem is that I really enjoy using the self propelled mower vs my tractor, but this is 1.33 acres and I honestly think these self propelled are geared for much smaller yards.

So my game plan is to get Sears to come out and do a full tune-up on the tractor (it has been a few years) and let it shoulder the work for the rest of this season, and once we get into the fall start looking for some end of the season deals on self propelled mowers that are better situated for bigger yards (all suggestions welcome).

My dryer died too - must be the time for our trusty machines to kick the bucket!

I think you are right, I went through two of them before I finally broke down and bought a John Deere lawn tractor. I still do 1/3 of my yard with my self-propelled so that I get the exercise. My wife thinks I am nuts, as I am exhausted and my knee is swollen, but it is one little way I sweat some off!
