Laundry Room Concert: Oh, wie wohl

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

Friday, May 30, 2014

Iím sharing my first, laundry room, accordion concert with yíall. Arenít you lucky?? Why am I sharing this? Because itís my blog and apparently, I can. Plus, one of my favorite things to do in life, is to try and learn new things. This is just one of those new things. Enjoy. It wonít hurt my feelings if you turn the volume off. Remember, Iím a BEGINNER!

Hey, I had some big, Spark-related news that I forgot to share with you a couple of weeks ago. The doc completely released me from PT for my knee! WOOHOO. She said that my quad muscle mass was even and ample, or something like that. Isnít that what every girl wants to hear? This girl did! Anyway, she gave me a clean bill of health, so Iím a happy camper. Iím still doing the exercises at home, though. Iím gonna keep those up indefinitely. Thanks for all the useful tips and encouraging words when I mentioned my stiff knee a few weeks ago. They really helped. And Iíve discovered that walking on the elliptical, even for a minute or two, really helps loosen things up. So, Iíve been doing that periodically, throughout the day. Iím glad things are better, because weíre going on a two-hour walking tour of these kinda secret tunnels under Cincinnati tomorrow. Iím really looking forward to it.

Side note: These are the text conversations I have with my 19-year old son.

This beats yelling up the stairs.

Occasionally, he answersÖ

I hope you have something fun and Sparky planned this weekend.

This is Bubba, waiting to go someplace fun.

I will leave you with this inspirational photo of Bubba, wearing a crocheted Viking hat and beard.

Go forth and conquer!!

Spark ON, Brave Sparkers!!!

I think it sounds fantastic! I used to do Polish dance, and have polka band relatives (Have you heard of John Stanky and the Coal Miners? He's big here in PA anyway.) and that's some pretty darn good accordion playing for someone who's still learning

WOW! That's amazing for only 2 weeks! You won't be relegated to the basement for long!
I was having a hard time getting going this morning, but you've put some spark into the day and I'm ready to hit the to-do list.
Think I'll be replaying your concert later when energies start to flag around 3:00pm.
Thanks for sharing your happy talent with us.

I *LOVE* listening to accordion music, and so tickled to see your progress!! I think it would take me much longer since I don't know how to read music... We have a friend down in Oklahoma who plays accordion. Or did. I hope he keeps it up. When we moved back to Kansas, we found ourselves kinda in the 'hood of a group of Czechoslavakian Bohemians (or "bohunks" as they fondly call themselves), and we'd periodically be invited to go with them to their "Sokol Halls" on Saturday nights for family fun food and polka! It's a different style of polka than the German (I am told, but I guess the difference is subtle because it's all happy dance music to me!!)....also the accordion I seem to hear more of it, whereas a Piano will go up more octaves and I can't hear the upper octaves. (Although maybe they make accordions in the various ranges, like they do with saxophones - bass, alto, soprano etc?? I do not know!). Well next time you are banned to the laundry room, you can call me up on the Google Hangouts and I'll be your audience, hey, might even remember how to do some of those polka dances, woot!

As I watched, I just couldn't help but wonder how it will look someday when you attempt to hula hoop while playing the accordion.
You're doing great! I fear I would not be nearly as accomplished after only two weeks.
You go girl!

What does Bubba think of your accordion playing? I'm sure he appreciates it much more than the rest of the family.

    Hey Shelli,

When I was in grade 6, there was a boy in class named Gus. He carried his accordion around everywhere. We were on a school field trip to a church and Gus played "All My Loving" while we were waiting for the other buses to arrive. The minister heard him and invited Gus to play the magnificent pipe organ inside. I am sure something equally amazing will happen to you if you keep up your practice. Accordions Rule!

I always try to learn something new as well! It keeps that old timers brain thing away! I have been taking a knitting class. Yes, I get kidded about that too. I know they will love the knitted dish cloths I am going to make them for Christmas! Maybe.
I text my son too. Sometimes it's the only way to get his attention!
Glad your knee is healed!
Enjoyed your music.

You are so coordinated! That would be so hard doing one thing with the left hand and something different with the left - reminds me of when I practiced karate!

My grandfather played the accordion - everyone loved it.

So happy you got a clean bill of health from your Doctor - awesome.

And don't worry about Audrey - looks like she has oodles of time before her wedding.
She will be asking you to play the accordion at her wedding!!

I totally love your determination!!

Very impressive for beginning work. That is a lot to coordinate when playing an accordion. Your cheerful attitude is so inspiring! I expect to see your accordion in your next church program.

Gee, I love how your learning new stuff. In my book, that's what keeps one young and interstering ( even if in your case, it's an old fashioned instument, and your goofy at some things. )

If you lived in my city, I'd love for you to come visit frequently. I love your sense of humor and passion in life.

So you also have a 19 year old son? Now it this a genuine conversation or just a joke. Because I do remember when our son was 16, counting his meals. Now he called them snacks, but many were a good amount, like a burger. There was 9 of them between 4-11 pm. emoticon

You are so talented. I admire how you go out trying new things all the time with your music. And hooping talent. You did a GREAT Job for a beginner. First thing I thought of when you said hiding in the laundry room to play was that song by The Guess Who. Called SQEEZE BOX. Here are the lyrics to that song.

Mama's got a squeeze box
She wears on her chest
And when Daddy comes home
He never gets no rest

'Cause she's playing all night
And the music's all right
Mama's got a squeeze box
Daddy never sleeps at night

Well the kids don't eat
And the dog can't sleep
There's no escape from the music
In the whole damn street

'Cause she's playing all night
And the music's all right
Mama's got a squeeze box
Daddy never sleeps at night

She goes in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out

She's playing all night
And the music's all tight
Mama's got a squeeze box
Daddy never sleeps at night

Oh my goodness, you need to write a musical. emoticon I can hear it now "Notes from the Laundry Room" or "EhrfŁrchtig Akkordeonmusik aus der WaschkŁche" Got to love Google Translate, lol.
Seriously, you are making amazing progress, and in a couple of years Audrey will be so used to the accordion you may be able to sneak it on in there to the weddding.... so practice away on the Chicken Dance so you are ready to shine...
You go girl, keep on living those dreams, life is a whole lot more awesome that way!
