is over, and I got another button. The school where my daughters graduated hands out buttons to all the Vets that attend the annual parade. It was so hot I drank an entire water bottle in just over one hour. I don't drink enough WATER
ever. (Well it was flavored.)
We came back and bought stuff for the garden.
When we got home we discovered we didn't have enough potting soil for my new raised planter box so we went shopping again and while we were at the second store (a bit closer to home) we found a great deal on one of those little dish type fire pits. DH has been wanting one for a couple of years, so we got it.
Now we will be able to sit in the back yard and be eaten alive by mosquitoes while being smoked by the fire. Then I get to take a shower to get rid of the smoky smell so I can sleep with wet hair. My idea of fun, NOT.
Well the garden is planted, corn for him(he gets to weed and hoe it and hope the raccoons leave some for him to eat), carrots
for DD (she gets to care for them), cucumbers
(in the main garden), tomatoes, peppers, radishes and lettuce (in the raised box and on the porch for me to take care of).
Can't wait for the cukes or tomatoes to produce enough so I can make relish again I'm almost out. If it doesn't get too hot I might even try to can some other things as well. Need to research a few lower sugar jam recipes. Then maybe I won't feel like I'm cheating by eating enough to actually taste it. Mom used to can all kinds of stuff for us to eat every winter. I did a lot more, years back when the girls were little and ate most anything you put in front of them. Now DD#2 is really picky and practically a vegetarian -doesn't like the taste of meat unless it's had a ton of chemicals added to it, and uses a lot of salt on some others so she will be able to eat them.
And DD#1 has been at school so much she seems to prefer Illinois. She comes home for a flying visit 2 or three times a year I think to see if she still has a room here, so I don't need to plan to can anything special for her.
