In my last blog several months ago I listed what I do to help my maintenance program. I am reviewing each one this week.
Maintenance is an ongoing challenge. Every day brings some opportunity to make a healthy food choice. I looked in the mirror today and told myself that maintaining keeps me healthy and drifting is not an option. And that food will not solve any problems that I am facing today.
However sometimes I make the less healthy choice. I might choose a high calorie special pasta dish at a restaurant and eat the whole thing. On Monday I chose a salad so it was a good day. I find that I miss eating certain foods and although I make lower calorie versions, I miss the high calorie versions at my favorite restaurant. I know all the how to eat out tips but sometimes it is better not to order the cheese enchiladas with sour cream at all but have a salad with dressing on the side. I choose not to eat out often because I hate having to think about what I can have.
Being thinner and feeling more energetic is a good trade off. So every day I work on making good food choices and acknowledge the times I slip up. When I do slip up I renew my commitment to being healthy. My goal is to keep the slip ups to a very rare occasion and periodically plan for a favorite food.
