More sightseeing and some climbing in Hawaii

Friday, May 23, 2014

Thanks so much to everyone that's read my blogs! I haven't had time to answer them all, and while I'm visit my friend may not get time! We leave next Thursday to go back to CA but there is still a lot she has planned for me between then and the 17th of June when I go back to CA.

Yesterday was a beautiful day. W visited some more little local tourist shops which I didn't get pictures of. There are tons of them here, and often you can find the same things for much cheaper at one than another. But there are some that are run by the local artist and the stuff isn't sold anywhere else. Very cool. Then we visited some beaches. Being an island of course there are many. But first of course there are chickens outside everywhere! I think I've fallen in love with them though! Only happens on Kaua'i.

Mom with chicks

Seems to be proud dad (they mate for life too)

One of the places we went was to Kilauea Point to a Wildlife Refuge and also a lighthouse to see.

These are a couple of pictures of Nene, the official state birds of Hawaii and is actually a type of goose that is endangered.

The Kilauea Point Lighthouse

Views of the ocean and the areas the birds are in the sanctuary around the lighthouse

I wanted to get pictures of some of the Albatross and others flying but I couldn't. THey were too fast or too far away from me.

From there we went driving some more and I'm so glad Lynda has been to this island about 26 times and knows her way around. We went across a whole lot of one lane bridges too where we had to wait for cars or they had to wait for us.

We went past other beaches but I won't post all of them. THen we got to an area called The Tunnels that have these big caves across the street from the ocean. This area at Napoli Beach is much more crowded.

And into one of the tunnels or caves. Pictures didn't get come out to well in there.

Coming out of one of the tunnels

Then up the road to hiking 1/4 mile up a killer trail at Napali Coast

See all these warning signs!

Stewn with rocks and lots of them bigger than this! I was too busy trying get up, get down, or let someone pass on the narrow trail to take many pics though!

Looking down on the beach for the height we were at in 1/4 mile

This is the trail if we'd kept going on from the point toward the waterfall ahead at this point
anyway

And here is a couple of the trail and me that Is "stole" from my friend Lynda's facefook page of us.

After I "crawled"down (not really crawled but legs felt like jelly when we got back!) we drove back home. My legs are still recovering today. So are my arms from the poles I was using to get up. And let me tell you my balance is not what it used to be before the stroke! I can't even walk straight and have threatened to get a t-shirt that says "I'm not drunk, just getting over a stroke". And Lynda had a knee replacement about 6 months ago too. I guess for two "old" ladies we did okay!

What we did today later. That was yesterday (Thursday) It is now 12:05 am according to my computer, which is still on TX time and that would be Saturday morning. California time would be 10:05 pm on Friday night. Here is actually 7:05 pm Friday night and the sun is just going down if it wasn't for the clouds. . Lot of time difference.

The climb up those rocks looks terrifying. No way I could do it. And here you are making it to the top 7 months after a stroke! Way to go girl!!

Gorgeous photos... makes me want to get on an airplane! And, perversely, I love the idea of the t-shirt. Your recovery is something you can be PROUD of. And it would be like a PSA... reminding others to become aware of stroke symptoms and take care of their health. If you've got the desire to do so, of course... humor sells!

Take care, enjoy every day! emoticon
