I will never understand how it is that the traffic is so light on Friday mornings and insanely slow on Friday nights. Where are all those other cars hiding on Friday morning? I don't think we hit double digits more than twice all the way home. Between the commute and the workday I was so exhausted that I actually fell asleep right after I finished eating dinner!
The whole week I've been doing our clerk's job as well as my own (she was on vacation). So this morning my boss, who has been on sick leave almost a month, emailed me and said I had the priorities in the wrong order. Oh-KAY... Meantime, clerk is back on Monday and possibly so is boss. I'm probably going to catch it for letting the batching and filing fall behind, but I did have to get the claims out. At least the middle of the week I did. Our postage machine ran out of postage last Friday and Madame Big Boss didn't get it refilled until Tuesday. If the claims don't get mailed out we don't get paid. Period.
Wine. I have a couple of glasses of (cheap) wine every night. I feel like it's the one little touch of class in my life. I stopped buying it a few months ago, but started again for a very odd reason. While watching an episode of Chopped After Hours, I saw the chefs drinking wine together, laughing and having a great time. I almost cried, seriously. When I really think about it, I suspect it wasn't the wine I wanted as much as the friendship and fun they were obviously having. I wanted into that picture, and wine was the little piece of it I was able to get. Well, I know I don't need the calories, and it does cost a lot of money over time. Besides, if I'm being honest, it's NOT great stuff. I've had really beautiful wine, and this is nothing like it (nothing that comes in a gallon jug is). Maybe it's time to break up with this "friend." But I'll admit, it seems to fill a bit of the empty.
Tomorrow I'm forcing myself to clean out the fridge and the freezer. I'm getting beautiful new food in my grocery delivery. All of my favorite berries were on sale, and I'm getting some great greens. I'm also getting some meats in single pieces (turkey legs, pork chops, etc.) so when I get home exhausted it will take minimal cooking to have a great dinner. A turkey leg and a potato in the oven -- dinner in an hour.
Thank God tomorrow is Saturday. I'm worn out.
