What Have I Done

Tuesday, May 13, 2014

About 3 wks ago my daughter informed me that she is getting married on May 23rd. I know she was planning something for August. My 1st question was are you pregnant (her youngest will b 1 in June); she said no. They just decided to move it up to his birthday since they are just going to the Magistrate.

When will I learn to just keep my mouth shut. I am now throwing her a bbq reception that evening. I dont have any extra money so what was I thinking. Hubby did finally start working but first pay isnt until June 3rd.
To help with the food everyone I invited was asked to bring a dish.
But now hubby feels that we need more food and drinks. Personally I no longer drink as I converted to Mormonism; so I could care less about drinks.

I figured I go to the dollar store and pick up a few little things to throw some stuff together with stuff that I already have to do a little decorating

I will take pics of whatever I come up with.
I just pray hubby dont put us back in debt; we just fixed everything with the bank. But he says its probably the only child of ours that will ever get married and she is our baby girl and once school is over we are giving her custody of La La.

God Bless them; 3 girls and his son on occasional weekends. God forgive me but I truly hope they dont have kids anytime soon.

Keep it simple, the important thing is the fellowship! Good luck! You can also ask guests to bring their own drinks.

From my own experience, don't overspend. It won't be noticed or appreciated. Homemade BBQ beans and sloppy joes for a casual party go a long way. Sheet cakes at Costco are affordable. Not sure how many people you are inviting. And buy some mixed greens at Costco, too...some parm cheese and a caesar dressing. Dollar store for paper goods and condiments, etc. As for drinks, we bought some beer/pop and put it in a cooler and bought like 3 bottles of proseco, for our small wedding lunch. Guests shouldn't expect a full out drinking bash.

For you and I, I keep remembering what my Mom used to say about kids: "When they are little they break your back, when they grow up, they break your heart".

No matter how much we want to help/fix their issues...WE can't. We are only in control of ourselves. Thinking of you and hope it is a joyous event rather than stressful.
