The Roots of My Pain

Tuesday, May 13, 2014

The first is the root of my back tooth. I had an excruciating tooth ache all week-end. I've known I've had a cracked tooth for a couple of months, I wanted to wait until all of my planned trips were over before going to the dentist. Well on Sat. I developed a toothache. Of course, it would be on the week-end. One thing about me is that people never believe I'm in pain because I don't act like it. So, I did get in all of my exercise. I did go on a long bike ride. I ate all of my meals. (on one side) The one thing I wasn't able to do was sleep, though. The doctor started me on ampicillin. I could have had Vicodin, but pain meds make me sick, but I did take aspirin. I couldn't get the scene from "Castaway" out of my mind. I was on the edge of decompensating. I thought about people with chronic pain and wondered how they do it.
Luckily my dentist took me right away on Mon morning. One amazing thing was -yes, I did have a cracked tooth, but it was the one NEXT to the one I thought it was!! Crazy. Anyway, once that lidocaine went in I felt SO relieved. She opened it up and once she got in there there was a raw nerve or something from infection and that hurt, So she had to inject into the pulp(ouch) and even then it still hurt, so she called in the Dr. who does the root canals and he was more aggressive and in a very painful injection finally achieved anesthesia of the area. After that it was all golden!! I didn't feel any more of the procedure.
I have to go to GA on Sunday because my daughter is due to have a baby. So they put gunk over the tooth and will let it rest until I get back and then do a root canal. (it's 50-50 chance it will save the tooth but worth a try)
I feel so good! No residual pain. I took a nap- went for a walk and tripped on a ROOT and fell hard. I just scraped my hand, but I did think that "roots" were out to get me. Then I took a nap, woke up ate dinner, took a nap and then went to bed. Glorious sleep.
So in a note to myself - never put off going to the dentist!!! If I had gone right away I probably could have just gotten a crown.

Just catching up with friends blogs so missed this one earlier. OMG you know how I feel about the dentist! When you tripped over the root I'm sorry but I couldn't help but chuckle at the irony. Roots out to get you for sure! HUGS. I learned the hard way not to put it off either- I run in so fast now that sometimes it's not a tooth at all, just sinus pressure, false alarm. Better safe than sorry. Hope they are able to save your tooth. Glad you are out of pain my dear friend. Feeling for you!!

I know from experience that not going to the dentist catches up with you. Your mouth is the root to your health

omg, I went through this over Christmas. I put it off over the holiday and then, Like you said, over the weekend it got bad. The pain was like nothing I ever experienced before. child birth was a breeze compared to this. I first thought it was my neck, then it moved to my jaw, then my entire face. for 3 straight days and nights, all I did was paced the halls of my house. I couldn't lie down, I couldn't even sit down without being in excruciating pain. I guess it was the pressure. Plus my sinuses were making it worse. I actually broke down and started crying to my 19 yr. old son after he came home from a party at 3 am. He found me pacing the house. He just stood there hugging me. My husband wanted to take me to the emergency room. I was taking 4 advil and vicodin every 4 hours and it didn't help. I thought of Castaway too! I swear I wanted someone to hit me over the head and put me out of my misery. For the mere price of 2,500 I feel great now!!! Hope you back to your old self soon. I feel ya!!

Glad it all worked out in the end! Sounds like it was a painful process. I dislike having to do any of that stuff but yes, it has to be done!
Thanks for the friend add, I added you back! Keep on pushing to be the best that you can be!

My son broke his tooth last Thursday and fortunately the dentist took him in on Friday - had to have it pulled though. I wish you a healthy time while at your daughter's and hope they can save the tooth.
