I can see!

Wednesday, May 07, 2014

I went to the eye doctor yesterday. Finally. It's been about ten years since I've needed reading glasses. I was the only one in my family who didn't need glasses until then!

But now I need glasses for distance. More so when I'm tired.
I explained that I've tried using glasses while driving, but the frames cause use blind spots, and I rely on my peripheral vision a lot. So the doctor suggested contact lenses.

I was glad, since I was going to ask. My previous eye doctor said I *must* get bifocals! OMG; I can car sick in an elevator. Bifocals, and I'd be curled up in the fetal position somewhere!

So this new doctor said I could have contacts for distance, and use weak readers for computer work. Yay!

I *never* wanted to try contacts before. The idea of something in/on my eyeballs just wigged me out. But now it seemed it was time to try.

He put the in for me. OMG! The whole world came to life!

Then, of course, came the crash course. I had to be able to do it myself. Hahahaha! It could have been a video gone viral on Youtube! Well, aside from the ...err… colorful language I used. I didn't realize my potty mouth was that out of control until I repeatedly poked myself in the eye! Good thing there were no children or nuns in the waiting room.

This morning it only took me six attempts to get the right one in. I really hope I can pull them out again tonight without blinding myself!

LOL You'll get it down pat. I don't have bifocals but progressives. No line and no problems. I can't wear contacts anymore.

Contacts really are amazing creations aren't they? I had my first pair in high school and (I'm about to really date myself here) it was the year Disney's "Pocahontas" came out and the Chicago Theatre was having a special screening - it was a larger than normal screen suspended above their stage & my Dad had gotten us tickets in the balcony (about level with the middle of the screen) and I'd gotten the contacts at the eye doc just a few hours before the movie. I don't remember blinking much! LOL Between the beauty of the movie & just the pure clarity of it from the contacts the world was just amazing to me!

You'll get used to taking them out (was always the easier part for me) and putting them in as time goes on. Just be patient with yourself my friend. Before you know it you'll be doing what I did and wearing colored contacts for the added fun of it! Purple was always my favorite to wear.

Wondering: so you got the lenses right away? They don't need to make them for you? I will have to wait for 10 days before I get my new glasses.

Wow, I'm baffled. We're active in the same area today! I went to the opticien (is that the word in English?) yesterday. I've had reading glasses for about two years now and glasses for distance (TV) for a year or so, but my eyesight was getting worse so I needed something else. I don't think I can handle contact lenses so I did order bifocals today.
I hope we will both get used to the changes soon!
