Jury Duty, Day One

Monday, May 05, 2014

I'm serving jury duty this week. I'm not bothered by it, I'm glad to do my civic duty. The hardest part is that I have to pay for parking and the drive is a bit long so there's gas I'm spending. We get paid ($20 a day!) but I won't see that money for a month. When you're broke, it makes this fact REALLY SUCK.

I had an awesome visit up to Cleveland with my mom and husband yesterday. Lunch in Little Italy, the art museum, and then Mozart's Requiem at Severance Hall. I also spent a lot of time writing this weekend. It felt great!! I even made my writing goal for my RWA chapter's Power Draft this past week, whoohoo!!!

30 Day Challenge with my FB/SP buddies is going well. I am a day behind from a wonky weekend. I think I might try to double up one day this week as it's not too exhausting just yet. I completed the April Done Girl's challenge and have signed up for May's. In April I lost 5.6 lbs total :D My long term goal is to be at my goal weight by my 32nd birthday, but I'm excited to see where I'll be on my 31st birthday (November 24th). If I can average out a pound a week until then? I'll be the thinnest I've been in more than five years. Maybe even close to ten years. I don't think I've been in One-derland since I was 19 or 20 :(

I'm kind of bushed from jury duty (Had to be downtown and in the courthouse at 8am! Yuck) and exercising AND getting to hang out with BillAlex70 this evening. It was great to finally meet him in person :D But yes, I'm tired!! xoxo

I got called to Jury Duty last February when I was 5-8 months pregnant, here we have to serve a three month term. I was on 7 trials and even had to reschedule my 20 week ultrasound due to deliberating running over time. It was the worst being pregnant, because I was sick the entire time and had to pee like 24/7. I even had to have the judge call a recess so that I could use the bathroom. I completely understand how not fun it is!

Thankfully it is only a week, hopefully it will fly by for you!!! And a good thing is that I am guessing there won't be any food temptations hanging around maybe.. lol

Poor treatment is why people resent jury duty - if it were truly respected, jurists would be treated much better!

I've never been successfully called for a case, so this has always been a waste of time for me - and right now I'm in a poor place, employment-wise, so I would lose big bucks would I be called again! With all the long-term unemployed folks, retirees and students on break available (believe you me, they do NOT need breaks!),, they should be called up before those who cannot leave their jobs!

    Soapbox mode off, now......

Hope all goes well for you!

    Congrats on a productive week!
