Beginning of BLC 25 - Fitness Test

Sunday, May 04, 2014

This weekend for the beginning of BLC 25, we were supposed to do a fitness test (push ups, crunches, 1 mile walk / run, and 3 minute step test). The point is to measure our fitness to compare against later on to have some way to measure progress relative to fitness.

My test results were:

pushups - 36
crunches - 40
1 mile run - 9:13 min.
3 minute step test - HR 120

Now I don't really have anything to compare against as I've never done these tests (other than the 1 mile), so can't see how much my fitness has improved in the last 16 months since I've been back active on SP and been focusing on improving my health and fitness. I really really wish I had done the tests at the beginning of my journey, and this isn't the first time I've thought that either.

At a guess, when I started in December 2012, this is what my numbers might have looked like (and this is totally a guess):

pushups - 10 (maybe)
crunches - 20
1 mile walk/run - 30 min.
3 minute step test - HR 170

If you are just starting out, or even if you are already on your way, please consider making these measurements so that you can see from time to time how much you've improved.

Now, I can see at the end of the 12 weeks of BLC how much my measures improve!

Here's the link to how to do the tests according to SP:

Sounds good. Are there guidelines on how to perform the tests somewhere on Spark? I think I need to do this.

Great results! I'm sure your speculation about possible earlier results is close to the mark. emoticon

Looks like a good start Alie! It's always useful to have a baseline so you can actually see how much you've improved. This makes me wonder what my numbers would look like.
