No Additional Eating While I'm Eating (What????)

Sunday, May 04, 2014

Most of the time now days I eat pretty slowly. I don't care if I'm the last person to leave the table. Often when I have extended family over and everyone but me is finished, I serve dessert and while they are eating, I finish my meal. But occasionally I slip back to my old habits and find myself wolfing down the food and absolutely unsatisfied with a normal meal or snack.

At Weight Watchers this week we discussed setting down the fork between each bite and often taking a sip of water between bites, too. Very good strategies. One person commented that it had helped her to establish the rule not to put more food in her mouth when she already had some. At the time I thought to myself that I would never do that. But guess what. I caught myself. I almost did it. Definitely that is a new rule for me. No additional eating while I'm eating!!

very timely blog as last night at the table I was eating and the rest of the family doing the "wolfing" down of their food....they all eat so incredible fast. So I just get up with my dinner only 1/4 of the way done and take it into the other room to eat slowly so they can all clean up the table. They all know that it takes 20 minutes to tell your brain you have have something to eat but I hate watching them's like a race and my step-son and grandson and granddaughter stuff their mouths and still throw stuff in while they already have food in their mouths.
oh well, little by little.
have a nice evening Marsha.

I like put the fork or spoon down between bites. I am definitely a fast eater, I came from a large family and you had to eat fast. ;)

I am guilty of eating way too fast, and yes, eating while eating :( As my Mom is a fast eater too, its hard to slow down as we like to get moving after a meal.
But on my own I should have no excuses.

Those are some great tips for eating more mindfully. I rarely feel full while and immediately after I'm eating so the more I can slow down, the better the chances are that my brain and body will be in sync.

One of the beauties of my Lap too much or too fast and the band lets me know VERY fast!. Thankfully that has happened less and less over the years.

I got an app for my iPhone called Eat Slower. You set it for a variable interval of time (as little as 20 seconds or as much as 3 minutes) and select one of the little dings. It cues me when to take the next bite. It has slowed my waaaay down!

emoticon Yes, food has a way of making its way into our mouths and we must be conscious to put that fork down in between bites...I will see if I do that as well! Thanks for sharing! emoticon

Taking long enough to eat that it feels like I've eaten enough is a problem. Your rule might help me stretch things out enough.

Ha! That's a super rule. Almost disgusting that probably most of us do that! Thanks for a great tip.

Another something I read not to long ago was to not prepare the next bite as you are eating a bite. In other words don't have the fork ready to shove in your mouth while you are still chewing. I used to be VERY guilty of this and still have to stop myself sometimes.
