Who really knows what works...

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Today I received yet more advice from people telling me how to loose weight....
In the 8 years since I started here on spark people, I have gotten messages and post from people who tell me how I am doing it all wrong.....I am not eating enough food or I'm not eating enough whole wheat or I'm eating to much fruit..

the list goes on with the advice people send me.....some days I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry, especially after I check out there spark page....wonder why so many people want to give me advice, I feel like I have done a really good job, I eat healthy ...I exercise I never starve myself or berate myself when things don't go as plan.....I try and send out positive messages....I give advice when asked....
Yet nearly daily I hear from people who tell me how I should do something else...

I eat 6-7 mini meals a day that works for me....I am never too hungry or too full, it also helps when the munchies hit, I can tell myself to hang on.. food will be coming might seems simple but it works for me.....

I have always expressed the view....FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU AND STICK WITH IT....

end of rant...have a healthy day...

Kitt, my advice for you is to keep doing what you're doing because it works for you!!! emoticon

There will always be naysayers but if their plan works so well for them, then why aren't they further along. emoticon

This is YOUR journey and I'm sure if you want some advice you'll ask for it. emoticon

When I look at your page and your comments, I see someone who epitomizes what Sparkpeople can add to people's quality of life! You are an inspiration to me and so many others. I would take all the commentary in the spirit of "folks talking out loud might figure it out for themselves" way. Your successes mean a lot to me and are extremely encouraging in the way you express them. Thank you Kitt and all the others who've commented on the board here. Love my emoticon Sparkpeeps! Ruth

If I were in your shoes and someone told me I was doing it wrong, I'd be tempted to comment, "Well, I've been at my goal for the past 6 years and maintaining that loss. How are YOU doing?"

Everyone has to find their own path and should keep their noses to their own grindstones. If someone asks for advice or opinions, offer it. Otherwise, cleanup thine own back yard first.

Kitt, you are totally doing what's right and what works for you. Keep on trucking, girlfriend, and turn a deaf ear to those negative folks who tell you otherwise. You totally rock!

Kitt. What other people think is not your problem. You OBVIOUSLY have figured out what works for you and you do a fabulous job of helping other people, like me, whenever we ask for it. Don't let party poopers and jealous people tell you what to think or do. Just be the wonderful, generous, very smart woman I have known for years and admired for the whole time.

Love you and you are doing it your way!!!!

Wow, Kitt, that's just ridiculous that people will do that. Have they not seen how much weight you've lost and kept off. I think you're doing a great job. Don't let the jealous people get you down, because that's what they are. I'm very proud of all that you've accomplished. Keep doing what's right for you!! You're awesome!!!

It is amazing how everyone has the sure fire 'fix' once you are already being successful on your own, isn't it? I agree with you completely - find what works for you and stick with it. Best advice you can give, honestly. Obviously you are doing well and have maintained that.

I also cannot believe people feel justified in randomly messaging virtual strangers with unsolicited 'advice' and telling them 'how' to do anything or how something they are doing is 'wrong,' when it comes to something as personal and individualized as weight loss. Amazing.

Have a good day!

I agree; there is no one way that works for everyone.
Not only have I gotten that kind of "helpful" advice on my diet, but I've also had other Spark members telling how to "cure" my cancer.

I also eat the mini meals throughout the day, because of my gastroparesis, and it works for me too.

Kitt, first I just want to say congratulations for making yourself a priority and for your 8 years on SparkPeople. I've been here for the long haul but not yet 8 years. Along the way I've read about what works for everyone else and have not had a lot of success, until now, finding out what works for me. You are so right in saying ....FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU AND STICK WITH IT....
That is the real key and while it may take some time to figure it out (don't I know, lol) it sure is worth it.
Keep doing what is working for you!

You are so right. If it works for you, don't change it. The English has eaten 4 meals a day for years, and I have read where experts say that is really a better way to eat. So keep doing what you are doing. emoticon

Absolutely true, we all need to find our own way.
No advice should be given if non is asked for.
Sometimes I get tired of people whining and crying, in which case I might throw out a suggestion or two. In your case, suggest you keep doing what you're doing and what works for you :)
WTG, Kitt.
