Yep, that is right.. only 3 days left until my very first marathon! EEEEK!
So to wrap up the lat of my training..
week 16 ended not so great.. I was busy with my daughter's 7th birthday and Easter egg hunting and rain! so pushed my 12 mile run to Sunday morning, but was awake most of the night with a cold. I had been tired all week, but thought it was just my body recovering from the 20 mile run the weekend before (week 15).
I took Easter Sunday off finishing off week 16. Week 17 started with me still recovering from the cold, but I ran 5 miles on Monday and Wednesday and then 8 on Friday the 25th (my birthday). I took it easy on the runs, and the nasal congestion was improving. This past weekend was off, as I did my 8 miles on Friday because I had a birthday party for my daughter and myself on Saturday..
So this week is week 18.. the final week.. taper is in full effect and it feels wrong! I'm still a little congested from this cold and worry I'm losing cardio fitness, but know I should trust the process!
I ran 3 miles on Monday, and walked some yesterday for field trip at the zoo. Today is 2 miles followed by 2 rest days..and a prescribed 2 miles on Saturday with the race on Sunday!!! EEEEK!
My race starts at 7am! It is a point to point route, and I'm staying with my family at the race 'hotel' near the finish line. I will be close to the shuttle buses and plan to catch one at about 5:15 am!! I know it is early, but the last bus runs at 6am! so I want to have room for crowding etc!
I'm off and on nervous and anxious. I'm pretty good at visualizing and thinking ahead regarding preparation and visualize the running too.. just going for another long run. maybe not side by side with my running buddies, but I have a great playlist and there will be lots of other runners to help spur me on!
My co-worker/training partner is staying at a hotel near the finish too. hopefully he will want to meet up for the shuttle bus!
2. Only slow down/walk for water breaks/fuel breaks.. I find the body hurts so much worse after taking a walking break sometimes! but I'm good at slowing down. I've tried to alternate my music with fast/slower songs so I don't over do it!?
3. 5 hours around and about that time would be great.
Forecast this week??? The temps have jumped up into the upper 70s!! BUT thankfully the weekend is forecast to come back down with the lows in the upper 40s and highs in 62-64.. with a 30-40% chance of rain. Which is the range of temps we've been training in.. I don't want to run in the rain, but cool and cloudy is better than hot and sunny (when you've been training in cool and cloudy!!)
Here's the race website
I alternate between wondering what I was ever thinking.. to thinking the 19/20 mile runs were really no big deal in the end. Sure they were tiring, but running with buddies you chat with the whole time, it went by pretty fast!
Positive visualization.. that is what I'm going to focus on!! the course has a variety of location: big bridge over the water, then running through city neighborhoods, then running through the park, then running along the water along downtown and finishing near the art museums! So like 4 different race venues.. it will be fun to explore the new route! Positive visualizations!!!
thanks for listening!
