Springtime woes and update on my DH's Renal Failure

Tuesday, April 29, 2014

I like springtime but it really causes me problems.. I have inhalers that I had started back on fulltime and some other meds but I went to doctor today. got two types steroid shots. Short term and to help inflammation in my lungs and a long term one. Got another antibiotic. I hate it when bronchitis goes that far.

Last week my husband was coughing so much and getting weaker and weaker so took him to ER (he had seen PA week before and was on antibiotics for sinuous infection) DH is in or near end stage renal failure and has had surgery recently to form a fistuala for dialysis. He was in CHF and also had to get 3 units of blood. He was given medication to lose the fluid around his heart and body and by his scales at home from one morning to the next he had lost 10 pounds. My DH also went to doctor for follow-up after being in hospital and getting all that blood. He will start getting certain blood test regularly every two weeks and if certain criteria are met he will get a shot that will boost his body to make red blood cells.and hopefully not have to get 3 units of blood again. I have to say that him being in renal failure is a family thing now that he has reached this stage. Sometimes I have a hard time of being positive and encouraging him.

So sorry that you are both suffering from health issues at this time. My thoughts are with you. My friend's DH also has congestive heart failure/diabetes, but he can get very focused on sitting in his shop finishing a table; maybe your DH also has something he loves that he can still do where he can forget his cares (reading? fishing? ...) Ditto for you if possible!

My heart and prayers go out to you. I know it is hard for him, but I also know it is hard and will continue to be hard on you. Find a good support group for spouses of critically ill people (his doctor or the hospital will be able to advise you). It will be hard to stay positive, but I know you can do it. Sending hugs. Will keep you in my prayers.
