What a race we had! We had a two hour delay due to weather. Lightning, thunder and wall clouds with the wind changing directions every 10 or 15 minutes.
We finally were able to line up. It began hailing and raining. By now everyone was ready to get going. At one point, we were worried that they would cancel the race, but we lucked out.
My oldest and I started out and every time we turned a corner, we had a hill. We were doing pretty well with our pace. Then, the sun came out and the humidity went crazy. At one point we heard it was close to 90 degrees.
I started getting light headed. I stopped several times just to put my head between my knees. I was drinking water and Gatorade. I had trouble catching my breath, at times. We grabbed pretzels and had fruit snacks. I kept going!
My daughter kept telling me that we could do this and to keep going. I guess at one point my lips were white and scared her. The last three miles it was my turn to encourage her. Her knees, hips and shoulders began to ache. Her feet were hurting and she was hot.
I saw the finish line and just focused on it. I started pulling away from my daughter, but I was afraid that if I stopped I wouldn't be able to get going again. So I ran until the finish line and waited for her. I grabbed her hand and we crossed the finish line together. She beat me by 1 second!
Our time was 2:24:43and 2:24:44. We both were very happy with this time considering all that we "ran through."
The best part was when my daughter said she was glad she ran. I think it boosted her confidence and made her realize how strong she really is. We ran it together and supported each other when it was needed.
We are home and it's time to hit the bed. Happy running!
