Laughter is good for the soul

Sunday, April 27, 2014

I drove to the mountains Friday morning to meet my cousin. We spent the weekend doing nothing but having fun, talking and laughing. Honestly, it was the most fun I've had in many months and we plan to do something again soon. It had been about six years since we last saw each other, so we had much to talk about and catch up on.

We started by having lunch in West Jefferson Friday and then driving up to Whitetop Mountain. Unfortuately, the weather wasn't very good so the only thing you could see was fog. From there we drove through Damascus, Virginia and then to Backbone Rock for a short hike.

We then went back to my uncle's house where we had dinner and spent hours talking. The next morning we took my bikes and rode down the Virginia Creeper Trail. The day was gorgeous and we had a great time.

After we finished riding, we headed back into West Jefferson where we walked around town for a while and then headed back to the house for dinner.

This morning we decided to drive into Boone for lunch, but we took the back roads and first stopped in to visit the tiny town of Todd, NC. What fun!

So, I just had to share this picture of the restroom door inside the Todd Mercantile. Note the drop latch on the OUTSIDE of the door. Yes, I went in, closed the door and the latch dropped into place trapping me inside. I realized I couldn't open the door, and was inside knocking for help. Luckily, my cousin was outside the door to open it for me. She thought it was much funnier than I did! By the way, there was a tiny wire inside the restroom door that you could pull to lift the latch on the other side, but it was not obvious and there was no sign. LOL

We had a great lunch in Boone and then we headed off in different directions to go home. We had so much fun that we decided not to wait six years to see each other again. We plan to get together again soon. Laughing so much over the weekend felt really good,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and have a good week ahead.

Sounds like a great weekend! Glad to hear you'll be doing it again. I have been really wanting to check out some of the western Virginia bike trails like the Virginia Creeper trail. I hope to make it happen this summer, just have to find a weekend when both my husband and I have off... which can sometimes feel like waiting for a comet to come around again. LOL.
