Getting back to it means finding out just how out of shape you are...

Tomorrow will make a full week of being 'back at it,' and boy, have I found out just exactly how out of shape I am! It's funny - you can convince yourself that you haven't let it slide THAT bad...until you start trying to DO stuff again, lol!

This week I started strength training again. A pitiful little effort two days a week, but hey, ya gotta start somewhere. I guess I can take *some* solace that I used 8 lb weights, considering I had to build up to even use 5 lb ones when I very first started. I was pretty darned sore after my first little workout, though. Then - softball for the first time in forever. If I thought ST made me sore, OMG, softball did it in spades!

Today I got back on the bike for the first time since the weather broke for spring. I could not believe how hard it was to push those pedals. My 'normal' route is about 10.5 miles, and when I last rode I would hop on the bike any ole time & do that. Today, when I got 3 miles in I decided to turn around and call it a day with 6 miles. Bet I'm gonna be sore again tomorrow.

I can't even imagine how it would be if I tried to run right now emoticon

Fortunately, all this feeling pitiful & sore has steeled me to continue on. I just cannot be this wimpy. This does not compute!

Tomorrow, if I get up the nerve, I'm going to the batting cage. I could definitely use some practice before the next game Monday. Of course, this depends on me being able to move tomorrow! emoticon

I "started over" again last week too, and it is seriously humbling to say the least!!
But, we are both better off today than we were 7 days ago, so keep on trucking!

I have just gone back to exercise as well and it hasn't taken long to get with it and get the soreness sorted....

I know just how you feel! I went on vacation for two weeks, then was flat out sick and laid out for two weeks, then my parents came for a visit. When I started back to my workouts, OW!

Me to my husband: "I'm sore from my workout."
Husband: "Good."

Hah!

thanks for sharing. I definitely know how you feel. Overcoming that feeling that you used to be able to do so much more and you know have to start over is a big obstacle for me. In the past I have been so devastated of how far I have "fallen" that I have given up. I am glad I am not alone and your determination to keep going is great to hear. I am going to use that to try again too. Keep going you're doing great!

I just recently had the same feeling and can sympathize with you. I used to play softball a lot but now with two knee replacements can't really do it to well. I would happy to just be able to bike and hike again. Take care of yourself

Welcome back, and good for you! I have been playing simple catch in the yard with my son, and all the bending over to pick up the ball has made me note the muscles I have not used in a while!

I get it! Today marks my first week 'back' as well... I've been really trying to push myself and boy does it hurt! LOL But in another sense..it's a good hurting because it means our bodies are remembering quick and trying to whip ourselves back into shape!!! emoticon

Great post and I know exactly what you mean. I started walking and a day or so ago, I saw a chart that showed your age verses your speed. I fell in the bad bracket and here I thought I was walking at a pretty good pace! NO! But as least I'm walking! Keep up the good work!

I truly feel for you. I started getting fit on January 14. First time in my life. Those first couple of weeks, I thought that I was going to vomit every time I did strength training. But, I pushed through, and today I feel better than I did in my early 20's. Keep up the push, you can do it.

This is my new day 2. I can totally relate. I started up my Turbo Fire dvd the other day and couldn't make it past the ten minute mark. Yesterdays efforts were much more productive. I finished it with a few short breaks.

We can do anything. We are warriors. It will just take a minute to clear off the layers of dust and we will be back on track.

I can understand being out of shape. I too am starting things back up again.
Was gardening, walking and mowing the lawn this week. Can only do a little at a time,
but I do agree that a little is better than none at all.

I feel your pain! I worked in the garden today for the first time this spring. That really made me realize how out of shape I am. I have been only working out on weekends, too tired after work, but that is not enough.
