Always Feeling AWFUL

Saturday, April 26, 2014

I am overweight

I have a desk job(keeps me stiff)

I am ALWAYS tired

I have undiagnosed Plantar Faciitis

I have no control of my emotions(crying spells)

And let's not forget the chronic migraines

I visited my nuerologist who ordered LAB WORK...I am not good with blood drawing. Shots,I can deal with.

When I was a child,I had EXCESSIVE lab work because Dr's thought I had Hemophila. I mean, how many times do you have to stick a kid in order to see if she's gonna easily bleed to death????????? So this is why I am not good with lab work....or talking about blood being drawn...THAT had caused me to pass out in high school and take an ambulance ride to the hospital since I landed slap on my forehead!!!!!!

Anyhoo, I have avoided bloodwork for years during Dr. Appts and checkups...EXCEPT when I was pregnant...(.I'll do anything for my kids. ) This time I will have to go through with it. My Dr. believes my thyroid production is low. So if it will help change my life,I will go through with it....I'll just have to get a supply list in order:

Klonepan
Ice Pack
Smelling Saltz ( MAN I HATE THAT SMELL)!!!
Bravery

I'm not an infant,I'm just scarred!!!.....scarred....not scared!!!!

Ask for a butterfly. Did that sound weird? I detest needles in any form and I have veins that love to hide because they are so small. I learned about 5 years ago that a butterfly needle is the smallest and you can hardly feel it. It hurts when they are drawing with normal needles. Feels like my vein is being sucked out of my arm. The butterfly takes a bit longer but is well worth it. Note that they are expensive and they don't like to use them on adults( they were designed for children). I always tell them I'm paying for it anyway so give me the butterfly. emoticon

I pray for you to have the courage to go through with the blood work. People have left good suggestions for coping with it, like controlled breathing and being well hydrated. If you have thyroid problems, you will not believe the difference it will make when you get treatment! I hope you will be feeling better soon.

I have always hated needles and too would avoid them. I am not sure why maybe because I was a premie. Who knows. I have thyroid issues and so I know have had to come to terms with it. Plus I think the needles or some thing seems better.

What helps for me is that I drink lots and lots of water before I give blood. Make those veins pop up more. Yes I have been known to drink two bottles just before in the waiting room.

The other things is I will speak up as they only get two tries and then someone else gets to try.

If it is your thyroid it does get better. I thought I was going crazy. I also found I am gluten and dairy intorlent as it was giving me fatigue too. emoticon

I used to pass out every time I had blood drawn as a kid and into my teens. As an adult I learned to control my breathing. Ask to have your blood drawn laying down, too.

I know how you feel, I feel this way about going to the dentist. My husband has to have me with him when he gets shots or they take blood. He will almost pass out. But these test will help you, so I hope all goes well. I always say close your eyes and look the other way. Sometimes it works. emoticon

emoticon Remember, you can do this...here is a emoticon to hold onto while you have your blood drawn. Make certain that you ask for the best person to draw your blood. Honestly, it make a HUGE difference and it doesn't hurt!!

I'm sorry you feeling so bad & fighting with fear of having your bloodwork done. I totally underst as nd your fear...I have dealt with paralyzing.fear of dentists & drs.my whole life..I'm better...I can handle the dentist with no problems now & the drs. I am better. I have nodules on my thyroid which has prompted lots of tests ..bloodwork several times...I was a brave girl & did ok...but it took a lot of self talk..prayer...& distractions. So far all is well ...good results from my tests but testing from time to time will be a given for me.. Anyways...If your thyroid is out of whack ...The bloodwork will give you those results & usually a prescription will help you feel so much better.it amazed me to found out how much your thyroid does ! Lots of stuff can be affected by a malfunctioning thyroid. I'm no dr.not by any means... just sharing so you know you're not alone in the anxiousness of tests & maybe even drs.& the thyroid thing can be a legitimate thing that may be contributing to the yuck inessential you're dealing with. Can you take a device to listen to music during your blood tests? I did that for a long time at the dentists!!! I was a bit of a freak -a- zoid.for a long time about that & it helped keep my mind somewhat distracted. Just an idea. Best of luck..you can get through this..I know you can !! Keep us informed. Take care !

I would be there also for you too - my mom has to do blood work sometimes every other week and she tells us they are "taking all my blood".

Blood work will tell you what is going on - keep us updated.
