Lots Happened Today

Thursday, April 24, 2014

I had an appt. to see the therapist today about my walker. She agreed I definitely need one so 75% of the cost was covered by a government program. I got the walker right then. It is bright red and black. I can move it so easily, and even with so much pain in my knee can walk not too badly. After that appt. We had a little time so we stopped for lunch. I had eggs and rye toast. Then we went to the Mall where my doctor is. We walked all around the mall, with my new walker, and stopped at the jewellery store for a Pandora charm for my DD for her birthday in May. We went to the doctors office and thankfully it was empty waiting room. I went right in. He pushed on my knee in a couple of places while I cried, and has determined that it is not arthritis but, are you ready? GOUT!! GOUT? I thought you got that in your toe? Anyway. I have anti inflammatory meds to take and an Nsaid to rub on the joint. If it doesn't clear up in about a week, I have to go back.

Last night I went to bed at 8;30 and was back up at 10:30. I decided to try to go back to bed at 11:30 and went to sleep, finally, for 4 hours. I was thrilled. I was out all day today and so am getting tired again now but it is a good tired and I am hoping I will get a few good hours again tonight.

I went to the government service office on the way home from the doctor and got my health card renewed. It needed a new picture and I looked awful but the only time it is used is at the doctor or the hospital and if I am there, I usually don't look or feel that great anyway.

I talked to the Doctor about a weightloss program with some accountability and he is referring me to a weight and lifestyle specialist. It is covered by the government health care. I will have to go to another town but the buses run there and now that I have my walker, I can get around , or will be able to, and I can get there.

Have a great week and coming weekend.

Gout can be anywhere! I've had it in my big toe, in the arch of my foot and my hand. It is painful as all get out no matter where it's at. Dark cherries or dark cherry juice helps, the last gout episode I had was on vacation I ate the cherries and drank the juice and in a couple days the hand felt so much better. I've been told by several doctors that it's good for arthritis too. Hard to find around here so I don't get it as often as I would like. I get gout and I'm on daily meds for gout, so go figure. I hope yours gets better soon. It's awful! So I feel for you. Hugs
I'm glad you were able to get that walker. I know it will help you when you're walking. Sounds like you've had a busy busy day. Take care of yourself!

DH has gout and it is his big toe but for his dad, it was his right hand. Gout isn't too particular in where it shows up. The meds will help but you should look up what foods you may need to avoid-asparagus, olives, mushrooms, some nuts. Each of us is different.
Congrats on the new walker.

Gini, You'll now be able to get around much better with a walker. So glad you had a very good and productive day. I'm also happy that you'll now be able to see someone about how best to live, eat and be the healthiest ever.

I'm sorry to hear about your Gout. I worked with a guy around my age and when he got gout he always drank natural pure cheery juice and he said that was about the only thing that helped him get rid of it. So, it's good to know it's curable and I hope your pain lessens quickly

Gini gout usually start sin the big toe. Then It can go up the whole leg. I take a tablet each night to keep me from having another gout attack as I had two. It sure does hurt.

Oh, Gini! I feel your pain! I just found out I have gout, too! It is in my big toe AND my ankle! I know exactly how you feel! Because my mother passed away from kidney disease and my kidneys are showing signs of the same thing, I have been taken off the anti-inflammatories and NSAIDS! I am trying to find some homeopathic cures to take care of the inflammation.

Take care!!!

AWESOME on the walker and the healthcare paying that and the lifestyle specialist. that is what I want to be a weight and lifestyle spec. or is she just a fancy name for dietican.... I would love to know cos I seriously think about the lifestyle thing not a life coach as much as health and nutrition. HMMM
So glad for you.!!!!

I had a good day after the rotten mood I was in yesterday. we took Thomas to the library then stopped in and played with Eva and visited with mama lol Sure she is happy to have some adult visits lol

Didn't get to go to visitation cos we had freezing rain and hail and I didn't want to have hubby or I drive an hr at 7 pm... and back. so will go to the service tomorrow at 11. much better time and will still pay my respects and say good bye to my friend.

Again so glad for you!! HUGS
