I can hardly ever find time to blog anymore! I wanted to write something yesterday, which was my actual birthday, but spent all my computer time reading all the birthday greetings on facebook. Today I'm awake half an hour before my alarm went off, though, so I decided the FIRST thing I'd do is blog!
Last year it was just about this time--right after my birthday--that I decided I just HAD to try to lose weight (again!) because I was so uncomfortable in my body. I tried to diet for a whole month, starting right after my birthday. Don't remember what I did, exactly, but I'm sure I must have cut back on food (probably too much some of the time), and I must have taken more walks and ridden my stationary bike several times a week. What I DO remember was that after a whole month I ended up at the same weight I'd started at: 175! I was so discouraged at that point!
That was when, through a series of random events, I discovered Spark and the way (for me) to successful weight-loss. Now, as I think about the past year I've just completed, I'm amazed at all the things that have changed!
*I reached my long-wished-for goal weight of 135.
*I have a much more loving relationship with my scale. I don't hide from it, or hate it, but check in with it every morning, first thing.
*I have learned a bunch of new computer skills by spending time on Spark. Who knew I would actually ever blog?!
*I have "met" people all over the country (and in other countries!), and actually met and had lunch and a nice walk with one of my new spark friends.
*I have taken a Zumba class.
*I now have a pool pass, and GOGGLES, and swim once a week (with my grown-up daughter, who has always been terrified of the water!)
*I have taken a weight lifting class, and regularly use the weight machines. (NEVER thought I'd do that!)
*I regularly work out in two different gyms. I actually feel comfortable in a gym! With people I don't know! Even when some of them are men! (This is so not the old me!)
*I tend to spend a couple hours a day doing purposeful exercise, rather than 30 minutes 3-4 times a week.
*I own a pedometer, and do ridiculous things to try to get it over 10,000 steps most days.
*If I'm on a long phone call, I sit and pedal on my bike while chatting. Also, I do that when I want to read a book and not get sleepy.
*I eat a lot more protein than I ever used to eat.
*I eat fruit every single day.
*I used to eat veggies, but now I eat more of them.
*I have an accurate food scale and use it.
*I usually eat cottage cheese on my salads instead of dressing. Never had done that before.
*I check in on Spark every single day, so I'm on the computer more than I ever was before. Which means I had to get better, cheaper internet service, which has been a boon to others in the family as well.
*I now own 8 lb. hand weights! (I remember when I could barely use my 5 lbs.!)
*I can do 10 full pushups, plus forty knee pushups!
*My stomach actually has muscles!
*I don't get sick very often.
*I have a lot more energy than I did before.
*Most of my clothes are "small" or size 6. (That is still unbelievable to me!)
*Probably the BEST thing is that my 22-year-old son now weighs less than his dad! He joined Spark right after I did, and has dropped from 230-something to 165-ish (last I heard. It may be even more by now.)
May 26th will be my first Spark Anniversary. What a great year of changes for the better! I am very grateful! How has Spark changed YOUR life?
