So yesterday we went once again to the Social Security office to see about my claim that I applied on line for back in December. Here is a brief overview of what I have done:

November 27th (at appropriate time) applied on line for benefits. - said no problem and I would receive something in the mail in 10 days.

nothing came.

December 3 went to the Social Security office - was told everything was ok and first payment would be April 16th....of course we waited to talk to someone like 2 hours. Was told again that we would receive something in the mail 10 days.

nothing came

April 4th went back to the SS office - now told there was a problem with my name but it was resolved and to expect a benefit letter in 10 days and payment April 16th. Again waited for 2 hours to talk to someone.

nothing came

April 16th called the SS number that you are told to call off their web site...hoping to not have to go to the office and wait again. I was put on hold for 45 minutes. Then the young man came on and told me to hold again which I did for another 20 minutes. He finally came back on the line and told me that I had to call the local office and gave me a number to call.

I called the local office.....again on hold for like half an hour. When the young man there talked to me he said a "Mrs Wood" had my file and I would have to talk to her so he transferred me to her line.....of course I got voicemail. In her voicemail she said to leave a voicemail but
"DO NOT LEAVE MORE THAT ONE VOICEMAIL" or she would not call back. I left a voicemail outlining the above.

Waited until yesterday and no return call.

April 22 went back to SS office and waited again to talk to someone. We got the same woman we did the last time that told us everything was okay. She looked up my file and then told us to wait. she went off and we just sat there waiting for like another half hour. I of course had good notes and reviewed everything with her......I was supper pleasant and nice even though by this time frustrated...but didn't show my frustration....just smiled and very nice to her.

She told me that I should expect something in the mail in 10 days....same thing again. I asked her if I didn't receive something again what would she recommend I do.............Well she went a bit ballistic on us(Tom was with me).
She said...and I quote
"Let me tell you about our reality........your claim and time invested is nothing...we have people waiting up to six months for payment".........she seemed proud of this fact. I had to bite my tongue to not say "and you are proud of this?"
But I didn't I just asked her what I should do if again I did not receive anything. She said......"do what you want".....call or come back into the office. She was so nasty.

So our government at work. They sure have no problem all the years that you work taking that money....but just try to get it and for some of us it's a pain in the butt. But good news is that today on line I at least see that my file has been updated so there is progress.

I can certainly understand why they have to have an armed guard sitting there at the office as some people must really go crazy due to frustration.

I know so many people who have not trouble but for those of us who do everything right and are treated so pouring it's a crime. How dare her. She was just so obnoxious.

So venting I am.....GOVERNMENT!!!!!

    How frustrating! Good for you for keeping your cool. Just think of all of the unemployed people who are competent and can't find a job...and we have to put up with these government workers...GRRR...my girlfriend worked for the city. She said it's AWFUL..she couldn't get anyone to do what they are suppose to do..Why is that?

    Have been off Sparks for a few weeks. I am trying to catch up. I know the flustration of trying to deal with the Social Security office. I went through this for about six weeks and Hubby was with me all the times I was there. I was told to do this....did that,,,,,not correct....do this, did that one.....Hubby finally spoke up one day and asked the woman exactly what do you want. We have followed instructions each time and they are not correct. Do you have it in writing so we can follow those directions. No not in writing. We returned again and got the same woman. She looked up at hubby and said this will do.......Finally got everything taken care of and in four months, the checks were correct. It seems that each one in the government offices do not know what the one before has done and it is flustrating. I feel like you when I was working they took and now they question whether I am due anything for my years of contributing.

    my mom was 58 when she retired had to end up getting a lawyer cause she could not get the money. it took 5 yrs but she was back paid . lawyer took his cut and mom then was left with some money and stated getting paid every month her full ss retirement. getting a full at 58 is hard. that was then I can bet its even way harder now.

    my hubby got the run around for 4 months before they gave him the okay now he is receiving his check, so I understand your frustration

    My Dad didn't have a birth certivicate. That was back in the seventies. I think he found it easier than you have. I glad you didn't to respond to the nastiness. May this time be the last time for you.

    Wow! Outrageous! If there is a place to complain about that worker.. I agree with getting some political clout on your side. They are supposed to help people having problems with government bureaucracy.

    no wonder people go postal I WOULD REPORT HER AFTER YOU GET YOUR CHECK!!!! You can just bet if that was her waiting she would not be smiling and calm like you were I am mad just reading what you had to go through !!! you do not deserve that treatment nor does any one else!!!

    She had SOME NERVE "TAKING OFF" on you like that JUST FOR ASKING A SIMPLE QUESTION! People like that should be "CANNED LIKE A TUNA"!

    WOW. You have the patience of a saint. Thank God you keep great records. That obviously was TERRIBLY frustrating for the woman you ended up with....she would have liked it if you weren't prepared and she could have brushed you off. As someone who manages people? I would have LOVED to have her on my team and to let her go. But that's not easy for government people.....

    I'm just so impressed with how calm you were with the situation. I would not have been able to do that. I could say so much here but I won't, don't want to get off on a tangent. I will just say that the nasty lady will hopefully get a good dose of karma and you have just earned some treasures in Heaven for remaining so pleasant during the whole thing.     Well done not going ballistic! I hope they will sort it out i. The near future, before you have been waiting 6 months!
Our former prime minister passed a sneaky law, so sneaky most doctors didnt know aboutnit, that people who have been abroad over 5 yearsnoutside the European community dont qualify for national health service treatment. The fact that I paid my health insurance every month is irrelevant! That, unfortunately, is now the law. To. Add insult to injury, people I know from abroad. Who have paid no health insurance contributions havw had operations on our NHS to which I am not entitled! Crazy world....

    I have been dealing with so security disability for over a year now... I ended up getting an attorney! This is still a slow process! I'm still waiting...all I can say is good luck! Hope you have a great day! Sending you some beautiful red roses today!

    Sallie, I would recommend calling your Congressman. They all have constituent services staff and this is what they do, solve problems like yours. I know it is frustrating but Social Security is incredibly underfunded and understaffed. Your caseworker was probably more frustrated about than proud of their backlog.

    I hope the venting helped. Sorry for all your inconvenience and problems. That is really poor service. Terrible. Don't know if it would help to complain or not. No citizen should be treated like that -- not even a criminal, and here you are one of the nicest people I know!

I'm glad to say I have had nothing but good service at Social Security. They even sent my Medicare card 3 months in advance without me requesting it. Guess I've been lucky. Fingers crossed that my luck will continue. Now the IRS, that's a different story-----

    Wow that is ridiculous. Especially the customer service on that woman's part! That guard would've used his weapon on me if she had spoken like that to me, let me tell ya, lol! But it sounds like you handled it wonderfully. I work customer service so I can tell you that I like to think I would never have spoken to anyone like that. I have been on both sides of the counter and I've had bad days on both sides as well but good on you for handling it well! I also hope that everything works out from here on out because you've been dealing with it for quite awhile now and patience only lasts for so long. emoticon

    Right with ya honey! My DS was medically discharged from the Army with disabilities and was supposed to begin collecting disability benefits as of 01 Oct. 2013. Guess what . . . didn't start till 01 April 2014. Ridiculous!

    Totally unacceptable! I was with the Feds for 32 years! I would have had blood in my ink as I wrote these people up! I went to the SSA website.

just recently to check on a few things, then called the numbers I needed from there and got what I needed. I wanted to insure I was having proper taxes taken out and wanted to insure my military service was included in my calculations. Forget the local office.

    Social Security is a pain. My grandmother passed almost two years ago after a long period of dementia. Six months before she died, someone defrauded her and her payment ended up in Arizona instead of Florida. We're still waiting on the money (ha!). Fortunately, she didn't depend solely on that.

Call or email your Representative with what has happened. That usually gets the cogs of the machine going.
