About Face!!!

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Things are much better today... I slept like a log last nite, didn't wake 6:30, crawled to bathroom, laid back down but couldn't sleep, and got up at 7:30 and sponge bath and prayed over the bath tub, (on the outside of the tub) on my knees washing my hair.... (NO more bubble baths for a month!!!

My niece picked me up at 9:50 and we went to the city. They were going to give blood, but there was a lock-down, there was someone loosed with a gun and the cops were there and so we moved along... MAde a couple stops and I started knitting a hat, though I thought about making a "toe cozy" to warm your toes that stick out from your cast.... hmmm..... My appt. was for 11:40 and long, long wait and my great-niece stayed with me, which helped fill the time. I've never really spent much time with her before, so nice opportunity. Got my cast on about 3pm and her mom was running other errands and got to pick us up at 4, stopped for Subway and some cash and groceries and got home at 6... long day.

But, I actually saw the orthopedic surgeon and she was worth the wait... Took a full patient history and listened and HEARD, and even checked out my other leg which was swollen. Then the real icing on the cake, my orthopedic technician had 2 nursing students with him, so he was demonstrating, with my leg, and giving full step by step directions... I told him I was a teacher and he did a great job and I asked some other questions too... 3 options, free plaster cast, which they don't recommend' go out of the hospital and across the road and you can get a $50 Velcro boot cast, which allows bathing etc; or the $25 fiberglas cast they do right there... and the one I went with... so many choices.

So, now I know the purpose of putting the soft cast on, having a walking cast today, is no big deal, and I don't even need the crutches (Hmm $40 for about 100 steps!!!) but FReedom..... so much less anxiety today than yesterday....

And it got passed through the family that I have a broken "leg' so got lots of family calls tonite.... and Subway for supper, so easy nite that way too....

Any my friend called and her g.son caught some fresh trout and she's bringing me a couple tomorrow.....What a difference a day makes,eh?

Thank you all for your understanding and empathy and cheering up, it was so much appreciated!!!!

Woops! You weren't supposed to be that much like me and actually break a bone! I'm starting to enjoy the Epsom salt baths that the chiropractor recommended I take. I'm sorry that you will have to miss yours for so long.

I went with Sherry yesterday while she got an ultrasound to double-check the baby and take a look at organs, bones, etc. It was in 3-D and SO COOL! THE BABY LOOKS LIKE HER! The two months waiting for the baby to be born are going to be long.

I'm so glad today was better - and you got a good doctor who listened. And I say, as long as everyone thinks you have a broken leg, work it to the max. DO a lot of deep sighing and looking forlornly towards the tv remote, say "You know I'd love to make you a nice dinner, but with this *broken leg* I shouldn't stand too other words, act the way men do every time the get a sliver or a sniffle. emoticon
