Five days in a row!

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Today made my 5th day in a row of working out. I'm so proud of myself!

I'm actually extra proud of myself cause I had a hard time getting going today. I woke up around 12:45 and crawled out of bed. I woke up to find myself kinda achy and crotchety from working at Cozy Cat yesterday. I went on about my normal business of making and eating breakfast, checking in on SP, and so forth. I chatted with a couple friends online for a few minutes after I ate. By the time all this was done, it was about half an hour later than I have been going to the gym. And I felt lazy, oh so lazy. But I did it! I got myself off the couch, got dressed, gathered my iPod and headed out the door.

When I got downstairs, there was a guy in the parking lot working on his car and he said hi to me. I said hi back, and he asked me if I was off to the gym. I smiled and said I was. He proceeded to ask me some questions about what gym and how much it was and stuff, and we chatted for a minute. I mention this encounter because it made me say to myself... I AM a person that goes to the gym and works out, and I even LOOK like that kind of person, and therefore I'm going to continue to BE that person. I mean, I grant you that carrying a water bottle, an iPod, headphones and wearing shorts and a t-shirt probably made it pretty obvious... but still, I like that he talked to me, and the thing he saw about me was that I was a person going to the gym.

So anyway, got to the gym and started up the Podcast for the day and headed up to the walking track. I walked 10 minutes, did the recumbent bike for 7 minutes, then walked for 12 more minutes. 29 minutes total. I was pretty pleased with that. Especially considering how close I had been to punking out altogether.

I came home and rested for a few and finished reading a book I wanted to return to the library. Then it was time to make lunch. I made a janky omelette. As in, I just sauteed some veggies, then dumped the egg in and cooked it. I didn't do the neat folding and all that good stuff. I made some turkey bacon and light whole wheat toast to go with it. Yum!

Then it was off to the library and the pet store to get dog food. In the process of going in to get dog food, I fell in love with a ferret. It was so cute and didn't want me to put it down. As I told dh -- it is a mighty good thing I am not rich, cause if I was, I'd come home with new pets way too often. I wanted to bring that guy home so bad. Something very remarkable happened on this trip, also -- I didn't stop and buy any fast food! I went out of the house, went somewhere, and DID NOT GET FAST FOOD. I was very proud of myself for coming home with no more calories in my belly than i left with. {And yes, I do realize this was shortly after I ate... makes no difference, I'm always still hungry, and normally would have stopped for something. But this time I didn't!}

Once we got home, I just sat and did nothing for a while. I'm really good at wasting time doing nothing. Then I took a nice long shower. It's amazing how relaxing a shower is! Then it was time to put my nose in the next book I was starting and read for a bit. Later came dinner, when I had a tuna samich, cucumber, bell pepper and hummus. Then snack was a pear, Greek yogurt and light toast.

Tomorrow is when I meet with the pharmacist/diabetes educator for the first time. I'm kind of looking forward to it. Hopefully I will get some good info, and an extra dose of motivation. The meeting is at 2, so happily, I don't have to get up early. As I've mentioned one or two or a million times... I hate getting up early. But I think even I can manage to be awake and there by 2 pm.

I had planned on taking tomorrow as a rest day, but then I found out something cool. There's a little nature preserve that's about 1/4 mile from where we live that we didn't know about. There's a small park there, with a playground. Apparently behind it is a small nature preserve with trails. So we're gonna go check that out tomorrow after dinner. I doubt we will walk very long, but I will get in a few minutes of exercise. If it was going to be warmer we would take food to the little park and eat there, but it's only gonna be in the upper 50s, and while that would be okay with me, dh would complain. But we are gonna go for a little walk and check out the nature area. I can't believe we've been here over 13 years and didn't know about it. Learn something new everyday I guess!

And now it is time to settle down with my book for the evening and cross my fingers to get sleepy at a normal time tonight. Hope everyone had a spiffy Tuesday!

    emoticon For looking like you go to to gym!! That's a great NSV and a Double emoticon emoticon for going to the gym and working out!! Personally I find it easier to do something everyday even if it isn't something major! My parent's are visiting and I hate to lose time with them so I've been getting up early and hitting the treadmill, this morning it was a real effort but I managed to do it even if it wasn't for as long as I had planned! emoticon

    It REALLY must have been the day because I also had a hard time today. Feeling sleeeepy. It should be warmer right? So emoticon emoticon emoticon On keep on keeping on! Let's make this a habit. Even when we're tired... think of Nike and just do it right? emoticon

    Good luck with your meeting with your diabetes educator. I hope you learn lots of new things to help you on the path to better health! emoticon emoticon

    Congratulations on your fitness streak and NOT stopping for not so nutritious food. Also again way to go NOT bringing home another fur buddie though you were extremely tempted.

    Mop up as much information at your pharmacist/dietician appointment, I think you will motivate yourself to make it on time.

    And writing about motivation, the conversation with the guy working on his car was inspirational as you wrote.

    Glad you had a healthy Tuesday! Enjoy your Wednesday!
