Inspired by Boston Runners

Monday, April 21, 2014

Here's my friend, Cary, highlighted and finishing the Boston Marathon in 3 hours 40-something minutes. WOW! And he will be turning 60 soon. He runs Galloway with walk breaks, too:

Here's a better picture of him with his wife, Susan, at our recent party. They were the man and the woman who ran the most marathons this year. She doesn't run near as fast as he does, but she runs almost every day and is very fit. And very nice as well.

So glad the Boston Marathon appears to be going well today. Very emotional for many, many people.

I ran today in my neighborhood, 3+ miles at about 9:40 pace. Felt great. Then Gwen and I went to the park. My favorite part was seeing how close we could get sneaking up on birds - egrets, ibis, crows, robins, doves, anhinga, and a lot of brown birds that look like crows (only brown) but I've forgotten their name. Gwen's favorite part was meeting a pug named Ella (and owner named Marilyn) and getting to pet her (the dog). At the water's edge we saw some noisy jet skis, but it was fun to see the little boats spray water fast all around the lake. Gwen tried out every piece of playground equipment, too. We'll pick Natalie up from school today. After homework, we'll play. Their mom's out of town on a business trip, so it'll be supper and bath here before their daddy gets off work and picks them up. Hubby can't have supper tonight as he's having a colonoscopy tomorrow; hoping he doesn't get "hangry."

Life is good here. So glad I'm fit enough to be up for everything that is needed and truly enjoy so much of it. Not sure I'll ever run a marathon and I am sure I'll never qualify for the Boston Marathon. But I'm proud to be a runner and to be inspired by those who do run Boston!!

Isn't it fun to see what children notice? I think it helps keep us young to spend time with little ones, and try to see things through their eyes.

LOL I was pretty sure Gwen didn't pet the dog's owner, but thanks for clarifying!

Yes, the Boston Marathon was a true testament to holding strong no matter what today. Congrats to your friend on being BQ!

I had friends run the Boston Marathon today, as well. Been tracking them on the BAA website, waiting on one more to finish, she's on track for 4:15. I'm so inspired by them. I also got up and ran this morning; in my runners for Boston shirt of course! :-)
