THE JACOBSTOWE JIG

Friday, April 18, 2014

This is a Jig with a difference. It refers to a job I had several years ago playing piano in a pub in Exbourne. A number of farmers from the neibouring village of Jacobstowe (2 miles away) used to walk to Exbourne, drink lots of the local cider and then attempt the walk home. Their walks would often be like a jig dance hence the tempo changes, key changes and the odd dissonant unexpected clips.

These eight farmers were always cheerful and loud in conversation and the nightly walk when completely drunk was part of the ritual.

Jacobstowe lies just 5 miles north of Okehampton and Dartmoor and is in the heart of north west Devon.

I hope you all enjoy this one.

Thanking you all in advance of the comments.

Cheers and love to you all.

Trev

Do you think any of them started to sober up by the time they got to the end of their walk. What a happy, cheerful tune.

Wonderful visual music. I just closed my eyes and leaned back and there were your farmers meandering and at times stumbling a bit heading home. Thanks ever so much for sharing.

    What fun!
I wonder how many of those rock fences they have to stop to "hold up" along the way before reeling back into the lane! lol
And have the local shepherd dogs taken up posts herding them along?!?

At least, with several miles to navigate, maybe they're "presentable" once they get into their own properties!
