Life is what happens when you're making other plans!

Thursday, April 17, 2014

The last 5 months have been crazy. After exercising, eating well, and keeping my blood sugar under control, I caught one of those bugs that were going around after Thanksgiving.
Then, I had to fly to Dubai, where my sister lives, to help baptize my nephew. It was a beautiful trip, we baptzed him at the Christmas Eve service, and my parents came, too, so we had the family together.
Right after I got back, I caught another cold, and it was so bad that I didn't get over the sore throat until 5 weeks later. Exercising was almost impossible, it took all my energy just to make it to work.
Just as I was getting back into a routine, a terrible tragedy happened. My mom had a stroke and heart attack, completely unexpectedly. She had just been to the doctor a few days before, and everything had checked out. My parents live in Germany, so I got on the plane and spent spring break visiting my mom, cleaning house, and teaching my dad how to cook simple meals, run the houshold, etc. I never worked so hard in my life, from getting up to going to bed I was cleaning, answering the phone, writing instructions for my dad, organizing the household, figuring out where everything is, and of course visiting my mom. My cousins and the neighbors were a great help, and my sister came for a couple of days, so we did have some nice times in spite of everything, but it was a stressful time.
My mom is slowly getting better. She is relearning to speak and swallow, she's stable, but she's still paralyzed on the left side. She's still in the hospital because of some complications, but hopefully she will be well enough to be moved to a rehab facility soon. If everything works out well, I'll be back in Germany this summer a few days before she gets to go home, and I can help get everything ready.
So I've been busy, and I've been watching what I eat, but there has not been time for exercise except for the occasional swim or walk. Now I'm finally well and caught up on my work, so tonight I'm going to work out. I've already checked out fitness studios in Germany on the internet so I don't run into the same problem in the summer - I really need to take better care of myself.

Good that you are eating well in spite of everything. You are exercising with all that you are doing as well. Keep the faith! emoticon

    Your title sums it up!

I like the corollary 'Man plans, God laughs!"

Make Today the Greatest Day of Your Life
