Busy month

Wednesday, April 16, 2014

I have pretty busy this month. I am Secretary- Treasurer for our local VFW Auxiliary. So far this month we have volunteered at local nursing home. Had 'Stand-up purple day" to show support for children of military parents. This recognizes the special stresses and needs of children of our military especially those that have parents that are deployed to war zones or overseas. The stresses of not knowing if their parent is OK or when or if they will come home. Also the common problems of having to move frequently because of parents being transferred. This can happen several times in one year. Difficulty in making friends and then having to move. We have presented 2 flags to local businesses. Had special recognition for nurse's and caregivers at local nursing home.
We are planning a 4 day event at end of month, honoring John Chisum, for contributions he made in NE Texas during 1800's. This includes a cook-off, and artisans showing frontier day living skills. We will also have music daily and free pony rides for children. Moneys raised go to help our veterans in nursing homes and Veterans Hospital , veterans and their families in need in the community and our scholarship program. This is a massive project.
We are also having our annual buddy poppy drive at the end of the month. We are also having several "stop Bullying" programs this month with our local elementary schools.
Like I said a busy month. Keeps me active and giving back to the community and promoting patriotism in community and in our youth.

That is really awesome what you do to help out! When you mentioned John Chisum, made me think of that good John Wayne movie and he was John Chisum. Didn't know he was a real person! Keep up the good work! Thanks for thinking of us, even when you're that busy...shows what a nice person you really are!!

All of the projects you are involved in are very important to your community. Congratulations for putting your time and effort into making life better for the people living around you.

When I Googled John Chisum, I was interested to read about his daughters. Are there any family members still living in the area?

They say the greatest gift we can give someone is that of our time. Of course, the veterans are sometimes called upon to give an even greater gift - their lives. You are so awesome to volunteer for the VFW Auxiliary. Big hug and pat on the back!

Have an awesome day!!!
