You Lose It

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

This morning I decided it was time for me to get back to doing my indoor walking as the weather is too fickle to depend on for an outdoor walk. I thought , 20 minutes should be a good start. I began walking and after only a few minutes was working up a sweat. I checked my time and it was only 4 minutes in!!! I struggled along ,but at 10 minutes my hips were screaming and I was out of breath.
I have heard how quickly you lose strength if you don't keep it tuned up but I never imagined it would be so quickly. Tomorrow I will walk again, but this time , I will choose to go as far as my body will allow me and hope I am adding minutes to each or every other day.

YES! You lose so much strength. I am training to run my first 5k (I am TOTALLY crazy to have signed up without being a runner first) and if I have too much of a gap between run days I struggle a lot more than I should.

But emoticon just take it all one day at a time!!!

That is a good plan. It can be frustrating how quickly our stamina disappears.

Hi Gini, If you haven't been exercising at all for awhile it is better to start up slowly. We can't expect ourselves to do what we did when we take a needed break from it. Even doing a few minutes a day at first and after weeks of adding a few minutes every time you walk again. Before you know it you'll be walking as much or more as you were doing. So glad you're doing what you used to do but sorry your endure wasn't great, but that's typical. I sure need to start exercising more. I feel good after a short work out session so why do I not work out more to them is the question I'm always asking myself. I hope Spring comes soon there for you. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I know I always hated that phrase "use it or lose it" that my track and field coach used to say but he was right when he wanted us to run or use the weight machines or whatever torture he wanted to inflict -lol. But good thing is once you start using it again you regain it quickly again too so emoticon emoticon

Try doing it in the morning and then again in the afternoon. Just slowly up your minutes you'll get there!

Well done Gini. Try just doing 10 minutes each time for a week or two and then increase. Don't push yourself !!! Once you get the 10 minutes down for a while you will find another 3-5 way easier and manageable.

You are AWESOME, keep up the good work !!!!

emoticon You do lose Strength quickly, but you also can regain it quickly. I know that you will be back to where you were in No Time, and then pass that!!

That kind of thing sneaks up on you but you can reverse it. Every day a little longer, every day a little stronger. emoticon

YUP and I was shocked at how much I lost from the 2 wks I wasn't allowed to walk, and I walk about a5 miles a day and wow barely the block and I was sore. So back at it, not totally up to par but getting there.

you can do this I know you can!!!
