Sodium Is Hidden In Many Places

Monday, April 14, 2014

Yesterday, I was so proud of myself for a good drop in the scale. I wasn't as diligent in watching my sodium as I am normally. Sigh, when I got on the scale this morning, my weight was up 4 pounds! It is a good thing I realize what caused the gain or else I would really freak! Now it will be up to me to drink lots of water and wash the excess sodium out of my system.

So where did the sodium hide? I ate a fried chicken breast, sans skin and fried coating, I have been told that some stores inject saline into their chicken to make it more moist when cooked. Combine that with the salt in the coating and you have a large amount of sodium. There is a lot to be said for making your meals at home for this very reason. I also had a cheese sandwich along with a pile of sliced veggies for dinner. Cheese and bread are also very high in sodium. Consequently, the glut of sodium caused me to bloat with 4 pounds of fluid.

I will be more diligent in watching my sodium. I will increase my water consumption until the water weight comes off and then continue drinking my usual 8 glasses per day after that. I will make a concerted effort to continue to eat clean and make more of my own meals at home.

It is so hard to keep sodium levels low. I have a tough time with this too. Even with eating healthy, there are just so many places the sodium hides in! I didn't know that about the sodium being injected right into the chicken but it doesn't surprise me.

Keep up the hard work and being diligent with your food intake! You're doing great!

Yes, sodium does seen to be in everything! I was definitely surprised to find that even my zero calorie flavored water contained 115 mg. per each 12 ounce serving!

Sodium is my enemy too. I do track sodium, and try to stay under, but on those days I go over. WOW always always a big weight gain on the scales the next morning. But I will have to say, tracking sodium has helped me a great deal on my weight loss.

Sodium is a sneaky thing. I am so glad they are coming out with so many items with reduced sodium.
