Food and "Pub" Tasting - Columbus (OH)

When I go away for a few days, I like to try new things - and particularly food...
I came back from vacations with a +6 lbs but I don't mind because I know that I will be back where I should be in a matter of a few more days. When travelling, I don't want to be restrictive - it is a mini reward. Having said this, of course I don't want it to be an occasion for binging. I think I did pretty good. I tried a few things… and I was able to say no to others too!

Here is some of my food discoveries!
First stop at the Trius Winery - Niagara on the Lake (ON). We made a stop for wine tasting and … decided to become members - meaning we will receive 2 bottles/month…

(yes, I will track it!)


For our first dinner in Columbus, we went to 89 Fish & Grill. The food was very good and plenty of healthy options. I had the Cioppino - scallops, shrimp and salmon in a tomato, bell pepper and seafood broth with orzo and garlic crostini… (bottom left picture) Jeff and I shared the dessert Lemon-Mascarpone Cheesecake (I did not take a picture of it…)

Breakfast was included with the hotel - nothing fancy just typical continental breakfast items... We went to grab lunch at the North Market - I tried Hubert's Polish Kitchen (chicken ball with sauerkraut tomato stew - top picture) and a blueberry buttermilk scone at one of the local bakery (no picture).

Before the hockey game, we went to Barleys for the beer and a snack - more a meal! I had the veggie wrap, I skipped most of my fries and trade it for a taste of my DH's hummus instead… (both pictures on the right side)


My favorite place to eat during our stay in Columbus was at the Elevator (Above). This place is fantastic. The décor is a catch to start with - from the color to the history behind the location - apparently this place his haunted! Cool! The local beers are great… I had the chicken burger - it was truly the best burger I had in years! The chipotle sauce with blue cheese (I substitute the cheddar at no extra cost - wohoo!) was an awesome combination. For dessert, the group shared the stout brownie with peanut butter ice cream - so I only had a 3 or 4 bites!

They gave funky name to their creations: " Dirty Dick's Nut Brown Ale"… no wonder why you feel good after a few drinks! I mean, I wanted to take some back home… They told us that we could find it for sale in the Brewery District... We walked there the next day ... and I am not sure what my DH bought because we decided that we would not buy it at this point and walk all the way back to the hotel with bottles. So they made a stop prior to departure, without me!

After Columbus, my DH was back home with the kids (well pretty much grown-ups now… ). I smiled when I saw the picture that Maggie sent me one morning

She made these smoothies for breakfast so bananas would not go to waste. Nice job - and it made me proud that she knows how to make healthy choices and healthy cooking too! Cuddo Kid :0)

In Florida, I ate "at home" most of the time... and we went out for dinner once - see previous blog. In short: not my typical regiment!

I am back home and tracking. My stomach is happy to be back on my regular and balanced diet too! I feel the difference and I want to keep it that way. I intend to be at my best - I am always in a healthy weight range but I like myself better at GW and I also run better. I don’t want to go below GW because then I have a tendency to be more prone to getting sick… this is a fine balance! Eating well and enough is important to go the distance!

My best recipes this week were my salads - I was craving veggies, light but still filling and fresh!

Monday: Walk at the Beach with my Mom before travelling back home (8k)
Tuesday: Day off - Hot Yoga 75 min and massage (deep tissue - it hurts!)
Wednesday: Back to duty. 5k Run on track (Speed work), 3.5k walk with DH, Hot Yoga 75 min
Thursday: 12k Run (Outside with hills and wind). 1000 meter swim (25 min)
Friday: Sport Award Breakfast (I won an iPod nano!), 5K walk on Curve Treadmill (36min), 3.5k walk at home with DH...
Tomorrow: HM

    I glad you get to travel and have fun. Kind of fun to see what you're up to. I'm sure by now the 6 pounds is already gone. Have fun on your next run. emoticon
