I confess that I detest the idea having to drink 8 glasses of water a day. To my way of thinking, it's about staying hydrated, so all water-based drinks should count, as long as they're not heavily caffeinated. (Caffeine is a diuretic.)
Here's my new iced tea recipe:
- 4 bags of Organic Green Tea (for antioxidants and weight loss)
- 2 bags of Roasted Dandelion Root Tea (for liver detox)
- 2 bags of a fruit-flavored Celestial Seasonings tea (for flavor - I got the variety pack)
I heat about 3 cups of water to almost boiling, toss in the tea bags, and let it steep for about 20 minutes. Then I pour it into a gallon pitcher that's been filled with ice and stir.
Obviously that doesn't make a full gallon. I remove the tea bags, heat more water and add the bags. (It's amazing how much more good tea it makes.) Steep, let it cool for a bit, add it to the pitcher and stir again. Then add water to make a full gallon.
My husband and I have a goal to finish a gallon of it a day, which means each of us is drinking 2 cups of green tea per day. We often add a bit of stevia to taste because it really brings out the fruit flavor.
