My trip to Turkey was much more exciting and amazing than I had anticipated. I really had not done enough homework to find out very much about the country. It is a trully beautiful, charming, romantic, historical and has a lot to offer. It is located in two continetns with 3% in Europe and the rest in Asia. They were the first to grow tulips and they are abundant everywhere with incredible landscaping no matter where you go. It has as many ancient ruins as Rome, Greece, Egypt and China. Mary traveled to Turkey and died there. It is 97% Muslim but there are less of the population that practices the Muslim faith. The majority of the population is young with the average age of 40. The hotels where we stayed were first class and very accomidating. We traveled in a Mercedes bus that had free Wi-Fi, moves and music. We traveled 2,200 miles via bus plus a 2 hour river cruise. The food is much like Greece with an abundance of fruits, vegetables, cheeses, honey and nuts. There are fruits sold on every street corner. I gained 6 pounds in 14 days so it was very tasty. I am a bid fan of eggplant and feta cheese. I tried as many foods as I could and ate my way through the country. Many of our meals were Buffet style so I enjoyed the food more than I should.
The Turkish Airline that flew us from Istanbull to NY was a first class plane. Every seat on the plane is like flying first class. You get food, drinks including complementary alcoholic beverages, house shoes, blanket, a gift package with socks, eye covers, ear plugs, tooth brush, tooth paste and lip balm. They have an entertainment center that allows you to watch new movies continuousy, play games, watch old TV shows, listen to music, surf the web, etc. I watch a dozen or more movies so for the 10.5 to 11 hour flight I did not sleep.
I received an unwelcome souviner on our way home from Istanbull to New York, a bad respiratory infection. When we flew into JFK I had a bad fever and felt awful but we only had time to check into a hotel for 4 hours of sleep and then continue our trip to Charlotte, Cincinnati and finally 2 hrs home by car. Since it was late Sunday I was unable to get medicine until Monday. I have been resting until today with fever, aches, pain, runny nose, congestion, sore throat, couch, sneezing, lethargy and lack of appetite. My BP was 104/46 and I felt like it. Today I started exercising again but that just made me even more fatigued. I hope to work my way back to my norm.
I plan to share more of the details but I am very tired and need to get some rest. I missed everyone and couldn't wait to get back to my routine but my illness hit me like a bad storm.
I hope everyone is doing well and having an awesome Spring! Love ya!
