Excuses for not Exercising

Tuesday, April 08, 2014

I have all sorts of reasons for not working out. I will attempt to come up with an excuse to my excuse.

1. I do not want to get up - This has to start with planning the evening and having everything set in the AM, which resorts to excuse #2
2. I'm tired - I'm not too tired for 10 min. Do something during TV commercials
3. I don't have time - Again 10 min, I know I have time for 10 min!
4. I tell myself I have something more important to do -

So as I sit here and try to ponder rebuttals for my excuses, I realize this will be very difficult. These are my "go to" excuses! Apparently I am dependant on these. I am having a hard time coming up with reasons to go against them. I have a gym membership, which at the time I thought was a great idea. It seems I am too embarrassed or feel it's not where I fit. Silly - but that's the truth of how I feel. I see I must work on the mental part of this more than the act itself. I will work very hard this week to get 10 min/day in.

Excuses are understandable. There comes a crossroads where we stay stuck or we decide to go forward in whatever life goals we want for ourselves. So don't let fear be the motivator of your excuses. emoticon

It is so true that the mental part of this is the hardest but there may be some tricks.

How about countering every excuse with a question ......Is staying in bed today, right now more important that my goals? Would I rather sit here and watch tv than .........fill in the blank. What I'm getting at is really focusing on why you are trying to make these changes, then it may be more compelling to do what needs to be done. Now I know it is easy for me to say this right? Believe me, I still struggle with getting in there and doing the strength training, yesterday, I even seemed to struggle to get my steps in...some days are like that, but every day is a new day to do better. The only thing that really gets me going sometimes is knowing that I don't want to feel like I did a few years ago all the time. I don't want to hurt all over and I do want the energy to live life and have fun.

Look, I know you can do this and I also know that anything worthwhile takes a lot of effort but remember it is so worth it!

Your excuses make sense to me. LOL emoticon I have the same excuses. I have found that if I take my 10-20 minutes to do my exercises in the morning I don't feel so stressed the rest of the day. Besides then I don't have to make any more excuses. emoticon
