Last night after a dance competition the girls in my daughters' new dance group decided they should go for dinner and get to know each other better!

I had a real AHA moment. First I ate the WORST items on the menu, and actually stopped enjoying them a short way through the meal.

Second, I realized that I have a lot of knowledge about nutrition but don't actually put that knowledge into action as often as I should.

I have an incredibly picky eater who is my daughter. Not only is she picky but she is a competitive dancer so she gets way more exercise than the average person. I have always been aware that as calories are NOT a factor in her life, and her dislike of most everything makes me find items that are high in protein for her.

Anyway, as I sat at dinner last night and listened to the conversations, I realized that I too eat like a picky 16 year old girl and instead of having a healthy portioned controlled meal, I will eat pasta and chicken strips just because I want her to eat well.

Not sure how I am going to tackle this....on top of a picky daughter I have a meat and potato husband....and my health conscious son is coming home from University at the end of the month.

I also do not track here on Spark People, I say I am too busy...but now that I think I can get an app on my phone, I am going to try.

Starting today, I am going to track for one week....and this is a CRAZY week. No excuses, no beating myself up, just a cold hard look at the reality of what I eat.

I read a blog today by a sparkfriend who not only ADMITTED to a binge, but TRACKED it! Wow...

    This is a lifelong journey. There is just SOMETHING about going out to eat that makes me feel I can LET LOOSE. My thought process is why would I spend this much money on a HEALTHY meal? I want to eat what I WANT. LOL With that said I just don't go out to eat much anymore.
Your blog is great and I see where you have meal challenges with family cooking. How to please everyone and still be healthy?

I have to say that I always had a lot of knowledge of nutrition too, but it was tracking that allowed me to finally lose weight. I have a picky daughter too...and a meat-and-potatoes husband...but I've been sneaking healthier stuff into our lives, and I cook from scratch a lot more than I used to. Even small changes make a difference.

    Tracking has been key to my over 100 lbs weight loss. Once you get used to it, it's second nature. You can also plan your days ahead of time and pre-track what you can.
