Week 13 and 14 of Marathon training

Monday, April 07, 2014

Ok, so I'm into week 15.. here is the recap from 13 and 14.
13 was a big week.. 19 miles for the long run. I did a 5 mile run on Monday that week.. and then totally skipped my other weekday runs! I did running in bootcamp, but not the mileage I should have done.
the 19 mile run went well.. Rainy, but good. New route with the running buddies. They run part of that route almost every week. It was TOUGH!
Through the park that included stairs!! I had to walk up most of them!
Then I was slow finishing.. little off with the timing, but around 13 min/mile.. SO slow.. but got it done!
Oh, yeah, Roscoe the dog did the 19 miles with us! Can you believe it.. but he is a TALL dog, so he barely trots along.

Last week was easy by comparison! 5 miles Monday, 5.7 miles Wednesday (supposed to be 8, but just didn't feel it) then an additional 2.6 miles on Thursday (supposed to be 5 miles).. see my pattern! BUT, I ran 13 miles instead of 12 on Saturday.. it was a good run, good timing and I purposely ended with 2 short but steep hills to 'test' my tired legs.
That run was really close to my marathon pace of 11:30 or so? Think I was 11:45. My goal is to be around the 5 hour mark.. I would love 11 min pace, but I haven't been able to hit that except for some of my 'pace runs' of 5-6 miles.

Ok, there is my update.
I am in week 15.. Did a nice 5 miles today (did stairs today instead of the 'big' hill) and in some warmer weather. Something I'm worried about! is the weather turning warm suddenly and my body not being ready! So running shorter runs in warmer gear to acclimate!
This Saturday is the last and biggest before the race! 20 miles! I have one of the girls on board (other is out of town) and my co-worker that is also signed up for the race! EEEK!!!

Happy week! Marthon countdow: 26 days

19 miles on rainy weather +stairs!!! That is difficult! Great job for getting it done!!!
(I would post a bunch of emoticons but my kobo won't allow me)

I should include stairs or hills too... my 18 mikes run last week had a big hill and it scared me! I did it but ... I could manage better a hill during the championship if I do hill training on one of my shorter runs. Thanks for sharing... I will step it up!

Keep up your great work - you are doing it... one step at a time!
