Changes in attitude

When I used to "diet" I would stop if the scale did not come down and then my weight would go up plus ten. I have been stuck at the same place for a long time now and the idea of stopping seems obscene. How can you stop doing what is good for yourself? So now instead of giving up and saying this doesn't work, I am saying, "Why isn't this working?" I am making changes. I am adding fruits and veg to my breakfast and lunch and doing more intermittent exercise. We will see what happens this week.

    Diet should be one of the forbidden words. If we have a negative background with the word, it can deflate your motivation. My husband had lung cancer surgery five years ago (his follow-up is Monday) and we changed our eating habits immediately. We both benefited from this, but everytime someone would see what I was (or was not) eating they would comment - "Are you on a diet". It often rattled my nerves. I lost a lot of weight - my highest weight was 235, and I started last week at 197, so I have maintained my weight loss well. What brings me back is not what I weigh, but the blood counts - A1c and triglicerides. If it takes a diet so be it. If it takes loosing weight so be it. If it takes uping my physical activity so be it. Utilizing the Nuitrition Tracker this past week has been eye opening. Now I look at every food choice with how will this affect my blood sugar level or the fat in my blood vesels. With the community side it doesn't matter about sharing my weight, saying I'm on a diet. The next time someone (outside the SparkPeople circle) ask about "diet" I can feel free to say - no I am allergic to that food. If they accept and ask about it I will Spread the Spark. emoticon

    emoticon So true....I'm trying to eat more low Glycemic Index foods....instead of just counting Carbs....surprisingly some fruits like bananas have a fairly high carb 51 Med GI but does not make my BS go up. So it's a matter of keep testing and see where it leads me...Everyone is different.

    I know how you feel. The same is happening to me. I have been working on loosing weight since early February. So far I am not getting anywhere. You are right, I can't stop doing what is good for myself.
