On being childlike

Saturday, April 05, 2014

During my looking through and sorting papers, I found this poem written to me by my oldest son. It was either for Mother's Day or my birthday.

Life can be tough
With problems we face
So many decisions
Filling our space.

There's not enough time
To accomplish our goals
We fight for some meaning
To replenish our souls.

People around us
Scurry on by
We forget to be human
And then wonder why.

Yet simplicity and focus
Being true to ourselves
Is all that really matters
Like when we were twelve.

Guess I will leave a word here. No, he is not a writer, but has a way with words. He is semi-retired from a business in which he helped people build their own homes. Gave me two beautiful grandchildren, daughter not married but engaged (what ever that means these days) our grandson (married to a beautiful young lady he went to school with) is an assistant basketball coach at Cal State College in San Francisco, a job he no doubt got because when he was in high school he and my son went at 7 am each morning to shoot baskets. That led to his being a high scorer during high school and college. He spent three seasons in Australia playing for a team there. I hated his being so far away, but he loved Australia and the people. OK, can't a grandma (nana) brag a little???? Night, hugs, Betty emoticon

I love the thoughts your son expressed. At 60 I am once again discovering the joys in life that I enjoyed as a teenager. Once again I dance and go for long walks daily. It's great finding the child inside the old lady.
