New trainer today; jury is still out.

Thursday, April 03, 2014

Today was my first day with a new trainer. I'm not too sure if I like him because I thought his behavior was weird. At one point I actually looked into his eyes to see if they were dilated. I wanted to ask him if he was taking drugs but I didn't. My husband says that there are a lot of guys on steroids in the gyms, but I don't know if that's true. I've never seen it, and I've spent more time in gyms than the average person. However, it's also true that I'm a bit naive in that aspect.
Maybe he is just a weird guy? Some of my best friends are oddballs, so weirdness doesn't bother me. Or maybe he thought I was weird and was just responding in kind. I'll give him another chance and then make my decision.

+I suppose I'm not very pc using the terms 'oddball' and 'weird'. Unique is a better word. emoticon

He might have just been nervous. I have made many terrible first impressions because of my social anxiety. But as others have said, if his demeanor detracts from the training, try someone else-- the training should be all about you and reaching your goals. Keep us posted!

If you see him again and feel disconcerted, you might want to try somebody else. I persisted with a PT for a few weeks even though I hated every minute. He kept clutching his crotch. And finally I realized--that it ruined my focus, and that I was a little bit disgusted and that I would feel better doing something else.

Maybe we are all odd and bizarre, but we probably want to be around others who have our own breed of oddness.

    unique? sounds weird to me....

The first thing I thought of when you told me about his behavior was maybe he was using caffeine supplements. Some people in the gym use them to enhance their performance and it makes them jittery - maybe he over did it?

At any rate, trust your gut. You're paying for this!

Yes, I would say give him another chance.
You never know, could have just been a bad day for him.
But if he makes you uncomfortable, then get another trainer ASAP.
You get get the best results if your not 100% focused on the training!

As someone who has actually met you (I'll be back in Italy early September, such a shame it will be in Rome this time!)... I can assure you that you are not weird!!!
But this trainer does sound rather 'unique' indeed. For this kind of job it is so important to be people-orientated that I cannot even imagine how they can hire someone who does make people feel uncomfortable! I think giving him another chance is fair, but don't end up working with him if you feel uncomfortable with him (I would do that kind of thing and feel miserable!!!).
