This Night Owl Needs To Wake Up Early

Wednesday, April 02, 2014

My husband sent me a link to an interesting news article on a recent study...

To slim down, it helps to get up early and see the light, study says

I think we've basically known that, judging by various articles here on the Spark about the advantages of waking up early. I also know that many of us have butchered up schedules, what with working split shift/second shift/third shift (etc), having babies that wake up all hours of the night, you name it. (This isn't a contest to name the most exotic reason why we go to bed late and don't wake up early!!).

I know many nights I'm up late-thirty just because I'm on the internet, reading all the wonderful articles and blogs here on the Spark, goofing off on Facebook, whatever...

Soooo ... this is yet another reason why I need to get outside and at least be aware and cognizant of the light outside. There are gobs of other reasons, like staying outside for awhile (before 10 am or after 3-4 pm, to avoid the majority of skin-cancer causing UV and UB rays) to help build up one's supply of Vitamin D, or to get myr exercise over with for the day.

You know I started getting up early (a little after 4am) for work and now it's Saturday morning-no work and I could only sleep to 5:45am!
There's good science out there that shows that those that work out in the am burn more calories through the day than those that work out later. Of course it should all be balanced with the goal of getting enough sleep. Sleep is an important component of overall health and weight loss. emoticon

I think the real point is to get yourself in the habit of getting to bed early enough that you are getting enough sleep to be ready to awaken with pep and anticipation ... rather than having to drag yourself out of bed in the morning still tired and filled with dread of the day ahead.

I know it is true for me... I also know how easy it is to get caught up in electronic devices and thus create havoc with my wake / sleep schedule... when I manage to get too far out of whack... I end up getting sick with whatever happens to be making the rounds at the time.

I am an early bird, so that doesn't bother me. It's when I have a late evening that I fade! Good luck.
