Wow - today was fantastic!! We rented bikes from a little place called Maison de Velo, right near the train station. The bikes are the first I have ever rented and loved! Usually bike places I have rented at have kind of dumpy bikes, but these were new road bikes that were a dream to ride. And get this: for a mere 10 euros we rented them from 9:00 to 7:00!
So, we took off towards one of the seaside towns using the scenic route the entire way. Practically no traffic and idyllic scenery throughout. Someone ordered up some good riding weather... Clouds dotted the sky lending a fantastic light to the hills. We were amazed at the number of songbirds that accompanied us. Normandy cows known for their brown eye patches gently watched us we rode by. A few colorful roosters just made the sounds of the day rustic and en pointe.
We had lunch in a small seaside town called Port-en-Bessin which my husband had told me about. Then we started riding around the town. Off at the end of town, the dock came to an end at one of the most astonishing beaches I have seen. True to my husband's description, the beach was covered inches thick with scallop shells. The tide was low so we got to enjoy the song of seagulls and the crunch of shells. My sister spent some time recording the sounds of the sea moving in and out. Pretty darn cool!!
We are back to Paris on Tuesday. A few more museums we want to squeeze in..impressionists and maybe Rodin. Dinner with my dad and then a bike tour of Monet's gardens. Tuesday's train trip will be our last long one.
Day's impression = simply fantastic countryside as seen by bike
