Last Sunday I competed in my 1st 5k race. It took place in Santa Cruz and was an all women's race with 5,000 women competing. The race took place right next to the ocean and was beautiful! The first mile was slow going because I was in the last group which was mostly walkers so I had to wait for breaks in the crowd to try to sprint around. For a while there we were packed like sardines on the road. After that 1st mile I kept a pretty good pace and there was this 1 amazing sprint I did that felt like nothing, I don't know if it was my adrenaline kicking in or what. My ending time was 49:27 which was 2 1/2 minutes slower than my last time of running. But considering the slow start, I think it went pretty good. I placed in the top 1/3 and my time was 9 minutes better than the average. So all together not too bad. I'm already looking for my next 5k to beat my time. It was a lot of fun!
