Yesterday I had my second job as and extra (background actor) on a TV show.
It's a new detective show - this was the pilot episode. It is based in Philadelphia. So it was kind of odd to me that it was filmed in Canada - but I know nothing about this business - so that could be completely normal!
It was a very long day. Call time for me was 9:30 and it takes an hour from my house to get there in normal traffic but since I would be travelling during rush hour that mean leaving at 7am - which meant getting up at 5:45am. They did not 'wrap' until 11:30pm - which meant I did not get home until 12:30am.
I had fun but I found that there was a lot of waiting around for the crew to set up shots in different locations throughout the building and different angles. There were lots of other extras so I made some friends and talked a lot and learned a lot about 'being and extra' from the more experienced extras there.
So much to learn. I really do hope that the next time I go that I am not kept for as long as I was yesterday or at least that if I am that I am wearing comfortable shoes! I had to dress in a business suit - skirt & blazer so I had heels on....about half way through the day after going up and down a flight of stairs about 100 times my feet were killing me! Live and learn! The bonus about the stairs and walking was that I was way more active than I normally would have been so managed to lose a pound yesterday - woohoo!
