Sometimes the unexpected puts an obstacle in our path. It might be illness, car trouble, family crisis, or just something as simple as forgetting your gym bag. You can throw up your hands and give up or you can think on your feet and adjust. Now I'm not saying that if you are sick as a dog throwing up that you should get up and run 3 miles. What I AM saying is that if you can still adapt to this situation. Laying in the bed you can make a healthy grocery list for when you are feeling better. You can peruse the Sparkrecipes for future meal ideas. You can even do some bicep curls and leg lifts in the bed.
Sometimes adjusting and adapting can be done BEFORE an event. Keeping a can of light soup and a bottle of water in your desk drawer can come in handy if you forget to bring your lunch to work one day. It might keep you from eating from the vending machines or drive-thru window.
Take your oldest pair of tennis shoes and some old shorts and put them in a bag and leave it in your car. THEN if you forget your gym bag you have a back-up in place. Also plan some indoor walking sites for inclement weather. Live near a mall or big box store?
Learning to adapt and adjust can keep you on the journey. You may not move at the same forward pace but just moving at ANY pace is better than idling your engine or turning around and going home.
