Europe trip - Day 6 (2014 - blog #83)

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

After a mistake of walking shoes yesterday, I was wiser and walked in my special jogging shoes. They are the ALTRA ZERO DROP shoes that changed my running life! I do not normally use them for anything but my runs, but this pair is at the end of their running life, so I use them for long walks. Perfect! I did skip my run since the soreness from yesterday was significant. But we made up for that by walking during our day trip to Heidelberg.

What a spectacular city! The views are simply stunning, inviting you to stop, linger, soak in the history that abounds. Not a photo that I had seen prior does this city justice. Narrow streets of cobblestone, sheer walls that seem to go on forever, a river that winds itself through the countryside, the arcs of bridges match the rhythm of the water and the shades of reds and dusty yellows of rooftops that huddle at the foot of the immense castle on the hill. This city breathes its charm into your day.

I have to say that if I were to come back to Germany again. Heidelberg will be the top of my list of see-agains.

Day's impression = it just gets better- another train ride, a sumptuous chocolate that I savored for over a block and a history lesson to boot! Impressive visit...

Off to London, my birth city, tomorrow via the longest train ride of the entire trip. Going to experience the Chunnel!

It's been a really long time since I've been to Heidelberg- you make me want to go back now! I say make plans to come back for SURE! I know it costs a lot of money to travel, but life is short and your sister living in Germany should be a great incentive to try to really come back SOON :-) I hope you do get that chance Diane - enjoy the rest of your trip!

Some experiences cannot be captured with pictures or words. However your words did entice.
Isn't engineering wonderful? The Chunnel does help with travel. Enjoy!

It's funny your train trip is following the same itinerary as one I did way back by train to touch base with family in Heidelberg, Paris and London.

Have a great rest of the trip. emoticon

I went to Heidelberg when I was in Germany. It was a foggy morning and it was just magical as the fog burned off and the city shone with the sun breaking through the fog.
