Days Until Summer!

Geez, are we there yet?

Yesterday was a train wreck in terms of fitness for me. Did not reach my step goal, did not get in even 10 measly minutes of fitness. I think I may have to just grant myself one a week to do that sort of thing because it pretty much seems the norm. I just can’t seem to keep up the intensity 7 days a week. I’ll have to think about that.

Meditation is what I'm focusing on today. I've tried to meditate for 15 minutes a day for the last 11 days and will try to repeat for the next 90.

Is meditating “fun”?

Not in the "ha-ha" over the top sense of the word per se, but it is instructive to me that the 15 minutes I take to meditate, usually in the evening before I go to bed, is making my sleep more restful. And the last few nights that I had dreams, I remembered the dreams with astonishing detail which is odd for me.

Meditating also seems to be making the next day calmer, more inspired and more productive overall which, like the weighted vest, makes things more efficient and gives me more time for the things that I enjoy.

I was going to share some music that I enjoy before dropping into my mediative state, but frankly, I can’t find the exact songs and artists on youtube, so I’m going to skip that and just suggest that you make the time to sit calm and quite for at least 15 minutes a day and see what it does for your stress levels, productivity and overall attitude. I breath in for three counts and out for 5 counts which seems odd at first, but after experimenting with various patterns of breath, I like that rhythm. Give it a try and Find what works for you.

Have a great rest of the day and hope it’s warm where you are (it was in the mid 20s here in northern Ohio. Boo!!)

To Meditate

To meditate does not mean to fight with a problem.
To meditate means to observe.
Your smile proves it.
It proves that you are being gentle with yourself,
that the sun of awareness is shining in you,
that you have control of your situation.
You are yourself,
and you have acquired some peace.

- Thich Nhat Hahn

I need to add independent meditation to my routine. Right now, I think IOWL is serving that purpose for me. I just tried the 3 in / 5 out count and was surprised by how instantly soothing it is. Maybe I'll add a few minutes of breath awareness to the beginning or end of IOWL time. I'm having some success with tying a few activities together in other areas.

Same here - I seem to have found that I can't exercise for 7 days without some rest. So I call it my rest day, it's never planned and it occurs whenever it does.
I too like breathing and counting to help me fall asleep. It works wonderfully! I got the idea from Renée Stephens: I count until 7 in and out.
Have a good day!
Nan
