Still in Darmstadt...
Getting used to the sounds of a completely different language today. Fortunately my sister speaks many languages and has lived here in Germany since 1981 and her daughter grew up here and speaks several languages as well, so when stuck, I have support. But still, trying to pick up clues to what is what is a challenge to enjoy.
Went for a run in the cold..not with much extra layering as I travel light light light. Fairly chilly out but that just kept me moving to keep t the cold from catching up and staying;) The fact that I really do not understand most of the street names made running in a new place a visual memory game. I was keenly aware of other landmarks to help me not get lost. And I managed to get about a 3 miler done. Not super sure of the distance since my nike plus ran out of juice and my nike running app seemed totally out of whack.
We then went to Mainz to see the Gutenberg museum (closed unfortunately), st. Stephen's church with the simply stunning Chagall stain glass windows and the very lovely architecture. And the day was compete with some fine fine German chocolates. We walked most of the day...so I am not too worried about the chocolates. Wore the wrong shoes so these feet are throbbing. Tomorrow I will stick with my running shoes.
Reconnecting has been good. We are getting our familiar rhythms back gradually.
Day's impression = another train ride AND chocolates amid history- not bad.
