Week 12 of Marathon training and recap of week 11

Thursday, March 20, 2014

Hi there, Thought I would post an update on my marathon training.
Week 11 ended on Saturday with an 18 mile run! Like the 17 mile run, I went with running buddies. I'm very fortunate to have co-workers/workout buddies that are either training for the same marathon, or do long runs anyway! Yep, that is right. One co-worker usually runs a marathon each year at the same time as this race. She would have signed up, but can't due to work travel coming up in April.. BUT, she has committed to train 'virtually' with me or with me when she can.

So, 4 of us met up Saturday morning.. and a dog.. Yep, that is right, my co-worker's dog that is part Airdale and part (I'm guessing wolf hound, cause he is HUGE).. went for an 18 mile trot with us!

We ran the same route as the week before (17 mile) but added a 1/2 mile at the short spur/turn around near the end. We got SUPER lucky with the weather.. only spit at us a little bit and never rained.

I got super lucky, that they are willing to run my pace! and Chat with me the whole time! sometimes, I just listen to them and keep my mind off things.

All in all a nice jog.. I say 'jog' because it was an 11:30 min pace.. which is pretty good for me as I've been known to push the 11:45-12 min pace if I'm really tired with walking bouts or tough hills. this time the tough hill was a little easier! I'm chalking it up to mental preparation and timing of fuel! the toughest hill is in the last couple of miles! yikes!

Anyway, last week I also ran a 5 mile on Monday and an 8 mile on Wednesday.
This week?
Week 12?
Nothing.. I've been out sick!
Wicked cold!
But I'm back to work today, so I'm going to bootcamp to test the stamina.. NOT going to push it.
I will run tomorrow.. maybe the 8 miles and then go for 13 on Saturday if the body allows. I can always push the 13 to Sunday if I need to.
I have a good route I like, that is tough, but familar, so I will plan to do that for the 8 and 13. I will be about 10 miles short for the week, but won't sweat it.. there is more running around the corner.

Happy Thursdays.. that means it is almost Friday right!

I run alone but virtual friends (like you) are really helping me to keep going. Thanks for posting your recap!
