A Reward! My Emerald Ring!

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

I am pretty good at setting goals and rewards for myself. I am immensely better at achieving my goals than I am at rewarding myself when the goal is achieved.

One of my very first rewards that I listed - and I will be at 4 years in Sparkpeople time come this August - was an emerald ring. It didn't need to be fancy, but I have always wanted one.

I don't remember if this was a reward for a particular challenge, or if it was a reward that I thought up on my own when I first joined Sparkpeople. I deleted some of my early blogs, so I couldn't find it there. I just know that at some point in my early Spark days, I did list it.

I never got it. I already said that I am not very good at rewarding myself, even when the goals are achieved.

I just visited my DS in Pensacola and also walked the McGuire's 5K with her. I admired her ring, and asked her where she got it. She had bought it off the internet; no, she didn't remember how much it cost.

She pulled it off and put it on my finger. Yes, that looked good, I said. I pulled it off to hand it back to her. No, you keep it, she said. She wouldn't take it back.

I tried again the next day to hand it back to her. I told her that I just wanted to know where she got it. She insisted that I keep it.

Then I shared the story about the reward that I never got around to giving myself. Now I have one of my rewards, and it was just the type I would have purchased for myself, and it is even more special because it was a gift from my DS.

Have a good Spark Day!

Tammy, I can't believe I missed your blog until today! What a wonderful story - you and your sister are both lucky to have such a great relationship.

The ring is beautiful, but your sister is obviously a "gem" too -- sorry, I just could not resist. emoticon

Awww...Tammy~~ what a wonderful Sister you have!! She sounds just like my baby sister.....
My sister would give people she loves the bite out of her mouth! LOL

I have to be careful when I admire things she has....because next thing I know she is giving it to me! In her honor....I wore the top she gave me ( because like you I asked where she bought it...) and had it on when hubby became a Canadian citizen on March 11th....Then sent her pictures so she could see I wore it that day.

And I looked good in it too.....she was pleased! And that pleased me! emoticon

I love your story! I'm so glad your DS parted with the emerald ring and it found a loving new home! That ring is so important for two reasons: your attained goal and for the sentimental value. ENJOY!

My Engagement ring was supposed to be an emerald with diamonds on either side. I was 18 years old. We picked it out together but I insisted the green ring I wanted was a green TOURMALINE. I loved it , it is emerald green. When I came to Maine we went to a store in south Paris and learned about the Newry Tourmaline mine. I was so happy I already had a nice size tourmaline, had it for 50 years now. HUGS ! What a lovely gift from your sister. Lots of memories attached to it now. HUGS Well done Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon

What a beautiful way to get a reward AND a good story to tell!

Mine was a sapphire ring. I wanted to buy my own, but DH insisted on getting it for me, so I downsized my desire so he wouldn't spend as much. It's a nice ring, but not the one I really wanted.

Congratulations! Mainly for reaching and maintaining your goal ... now also for rewarding yourself ... no matter how you came by it! I suspect you'll remember what you've accomplished every time you look at that ring!
