I am pretty good at setting goals and rewards for myself. I am immensely better at achieving my goals than I am at rewarding myself when the goal is achieved.
One of my very first rewards that I listed - and I will be at 4 years in Sparkpeople time come this August - was an emerald ring. It didn't need to be fancy, but I have always wanted one.
I don't remember if this was a reward for a particular challenge, or if it was a reward that I thought up on my own when I first joined Sparkpeople. I deleted some of my early blogs, so I couldn't find it there. I just know that at some point in my early Spark days, I did list it.
I never got it. I already said that I am not very good at rewarding myself, even when the goals are achieved.
I just visited my DS in Pensacola and also walked the McGuire's 5K with her. I admired her ring, and asked her where she got it. She had bought it off the internet; no, she didn't remember how much it cost.
She pulled it off and put it on my finger. Yes, that looked good, I said. I pulled it off to hand it back to her. No, you keep it, she said. She wouldn't take it back.
I tried again the next day to hand it back to her. I told her that I just wanted to know where she got it. She insisted that I keep it.
Then I shared the story about the reward that I never got around to giving myself. Now I have one of my rewards, and it was just the type I would have purchased for myself, and it is even more special because it was a gift from my DS.
Have a good Spark Day!
